Problem: Hood release not working

I have a 2003.5 G35 Sedan and just noticed that my hood release switch under the dash does not work - therefore, I am unable to pop the hood. Any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks.

Dave

Did the cable come loose from the release switch? Does it still have the same amount of resistance as before?

No, not the same amount of tension as before. You can pull the switch without any pressure or cable releasing. Is there an easy way to fix this?

Have someone push down and pull up on the hood as you pull the lever. It may just be stuck.

Local mechanic should be able to fix it.

Thanks for the feedback.
I'll post back and tell how everything goes.
I'm taking the car in next week to the mechanic (fingers crossed)

Update:

I was driving a fair bit today (usually I dont drive my car more than 10-20 miles at a time since work and everything else is really close for me).

Had been on the road for about 2 hours so I just decided to reach down on the hood release lever and see if its still broken and freely moving.

And viola! it was back to normal.
I haven't had it looked at by the mechanic yet so that saved me a trip.

I think the cable had frozen some how since last week the temps had hit 30 below and it was freezing cold. I think that had something to do with it.

And now that I had been driving around for 2 hours the interior of the car had warmed up nicely and I guess that restored the function of the hood release lever.

Just wanted to share my experience.
Hope this helps someone out.

I broke my hood release lever 'switch' too. Do I need to replace the whole lower driver side panel? Has anyone done a 'home made' fix?

way to revive a dead thread

but in the exploded parts diagram. it looks like you have to buy the whole panel. most are around 180 - 200. you can prob get one for cheap in a part out or a junk yard. or you could just ghetto fab it by attaching the wire to a metal rod and just pulling it.
