Sedan Horsepower

Re: Sedan Horsepower
brewski, trust me if you go with the sedan you will be quite pleased with the horsepower of the sedan. This car flat out moves. How many of us really feel the 20 additional ponies. After rethinking that some on this site will.
The sedan has a much larger trunk, passengers in the rear with be more comfortable for long rides and the car still looks sweet! Me I'm a family man with carseats in the back, and even with a Elmo sunshade the sedan gets plenty of looks!

Re: Sedan Horsepower
I'm constantly amazed at how powerfull and fast my sedan is.
Just had the 30,000 mile service done. They cleaned the
throttle body. It's even quicker now!

Re: Sedan Horsepower
The sedan and coupe do not have identical intakes. The coupe's intake is "micropolished" and the sedan's is not.
I don't think the 5AT Sedan's mechanical fan makes much of a difference, as it and the 6MT are both still rated at 260.
I seriously doubt that a CAI can give you 10rwhp. The stock intake basically is a ram-air CAI type intake. It's just not as straight and smooth as an aftermarket intake.

Re: Sedan Horsepower
I think this is a good thread. There is too much (circumstantial) info around that casts doubt on Nissan's ratings of these motors in the various platforms. What we need is a "Dyno Day"...get a bunch of stock G35 Coupes and Sedans, and 350Zs...on the same dyno...same day...same test set-ups...same correction factors..and see what the rwhp numbers really are.

What part of the intake are you referring to here?

I don't think it's just an illusion; I have more than 20 years of racing experience, (almost always winning!) and noticing the effect of small mechanical changes is critical in racing. Personally, I believe Stillen's claim.

Re: Sedan Horsepower
"...a little bit of roughness along the very surface of the metal isn't necessarily a bad thing. That roughness would trap a little bit of "slow" air, leaving a lubricated air buffer for all the faster air towards the center of the flow to run against. Having a very smooth surface wouldn't create that same air layer... "
I heard the same thing but I'm sure it depends on the fluid, size of the molecules, size of the imperfections of the surface, etc... It gets very complicated. I have a friend that teaches fluid dynamics at Cal Tech. I'll see if I can get some infomation from him on the subject. Good subject with interesting information.

Re: Sedan Horsepower
Part numbers on the G engines including intake and exhaust manifolds are the same and the same as the 350Z. Cams are the same for all the cars. I've checked
Intake tube for the 350Z is different. Resonators and mufflers differ but not the primary exhaust. 6MT cars have different gear ratios than the 5AT cars. All in all, not much difference.
The ECU is the key![Smilie](https://g35driver.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Re: Sedan Horsepower
I'm not sure which part it is.. I'm basing my claim off Infiniti's Specs page for the Sedan and Coupe.
Sedan Intake: High-flow induction system
Coupe Intake: High-flow tuned induction system with micropolished tract and ports.
So, it's also "tuned" for whatever benefit that is.

Re: Sedan Horsepower
ryoken, regardless the p/ns are the same: heads, cams, manifold, etc for the sedan, coupe and Z. Not the ECU's though. Interesting that this same question comes up on every G forum over and over. No one has a search ![Smilie](https://g35driver.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Re: Sedan Horsepower
Did you look at all the intake parts? It could be that the plenums are the same but the runners are different. It would make sense that they would polish the runners and not the plenum. The plenum and runners are separate parts but it depends on how they are listed.
