Gas pedal stuck

I floored it yesterday to get through a yellow light, I then released the accelerator, but the rpms kept moving up (gas pedal seemed to be stuck). Only after I stepped on the brakes did my car start to slow down and then the gas pedal released. What the heck is up with that? Anybody experience this? When you release the gas pedal, the car should start to ease up, not continue accelerating. The car was in normal D mode and I have a sedan.

Man, that is scarey! Take it to the dealer and have it looked
at. Mine does not do that.

Re: Gas pedal stuck

That is pretty strange considering the accelerator is only "connected" electronically (no cable). Definately have it checked out.

Re: Gas pedal stuck

Almost sounds like your cruise control engaged. No chance you accidentally hit the button on the steering wheel?

If you're sure you didn't, that truly is scary and I would definitely have it checked out.

Re: Gas pedal stuck

Do you have any mods to your ECU? Sounds like a software glitch (understatement!), unless you hit the cruise button as has been mentioned.

no mods to ECU. Just grounding kit, stillen & z intake tube. Yeah, I'm gonna have the dealer take a look at next oil change for sure. Scared the hell outa me for a sec.

Re: Gas pedal stuck

I had a similar thing happen on another car I used to own. The floormat curled under the accelerator pedal and kept it from releasing. Make sure it is clear of the pedals and properly in place. Similarly, my son complained that the clutch was not working correctly on his Civic. I told him to check the floormat to discover the top had rolled under itself, not allowing the clutch to work properly.

Re: Gas pedal stuck

There's a grommet/hole in the rear of the floormat, and a matching peg in the floorboard. Insert Peg A into Grommet B, and it'll restrain your floormat from creeping forward. Well, at least there is on the G35. Lesser cars may not have such a handy $0.02 device.

My 2000 Maxima has it as did my old 1993 Altima. I believe
it is standard on all Nissan products.

Re: Gas pedal stuck

Grommet or not, it's worth checking since the top part of the mat can move. Grommets are a good idea, regardless of the cost of the car. Even my Ford Focus has them.
