Sedan owners with UT medium rear spoiler…

I wanted to inquire with other owners who already bought this & have it on their car. I received mine the other day and just for $hits & giggles, I laid it on my trunk to see how it would look & check for fitment. It fits flush with the edge of the trunk at both ends…but in the middle of the span of the spoiler (directly above Mt. Fuji emblem), it doesn’t sit flush…there’s like a ¾” gap from the edge of the trunk to the spoiler….this just doesn’t seem right. I tried to see if I could bend the spoiler a little bit, but it really doesn’t give much….so it’s not like it bent during shipment. Below are some picts that show what I’m talking about. The 2nd pict....close up is taken right above the Mt. Fuji emblem...and this is where the biggest gap is (very noticeable). So my questions are:

1) Is this normal? If so, should it fit like in the picts, or is there an easy way to mount it flush. I’d like to find out before I get this thing painted.

2) Do I need to contact them & request they send me a different one?

Any info. or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

-Jim

Try Applying some heat to make it a little more flexible. I installed mine with the body shop owner. I would say the installation is a 2 man job.

is it still polyurethane. i had one of the first pieces and what i did was center the spolier to the trunk. then i lined up the center portion of it so that it was flush. took the backing off the adhesive in just the center, and then bent/flexed/positioned the rest into place so that it lined up.

Go with a heat gun to bend it. If that doesn't work, step on it and smash it into little pieces and then glue it back together for better fitment. J/K....good luck with getting it fixed Jim.

It's not the part, it is normal. Even though they say its "made to fit the sedan" it truely doesnt follow the curvature of the trunk line.

I put mine in the sun for about an hour.
With my brother, we both grabbed an end, I grabbed the center and we held each end firm till it flexed enough and then put it in place.

It didn't go on perfect but close enough. I may wind up taking it off and re-doing it again in the future.

Here's some pics. Let me know if you need more up close ones.
Good luck

Thanks for the feedback guys...though it's kinda F'd up that they made this product specifically to fit our cars...and it doesn't fit? They told me to send it back & they'll send me another one, but I'm gonna get them on the phone before doing so...because aren't these things all made from the same mold? Jeez...may need to get this thing on soon, before fall/winter get here; otherwise I'll never be able to bend the thing!

Papa - looks sweet...didn't know you had the spoiler..when did you get it on? Can you take a close up like I did in my 2nd pict? I took it close-up centered (right above the FUJI emblem). THANKS

I sat mine in the sun and it fit fine. It's been on there a while now (a year?) and it's still really stuck on. No gaps at all.

No problem Jim
I've had it on for a few months now. Had it on for a while before I posted pics (modded sedan thread).

I will snap some close up pics for you this weekend and post them here.

Keep us posted on what they say and send you. I'm curious if it will be any different than what you have now....the "made for the sedan" spoiler

RichK - Thanks..perhaps it needs to be warm to fit right? It was 60 deg. in the AM when I put it on....

Papa - Sounds good....will do. I talked to them & sent them the picts to look at. According to them, when I install, they said to start in the center & then do each side....didn't think a spoiler like this is a 2-man install, but I guess it may be.....

I had a 2nd person to help. Once the spoiler and the tape is warmed up, it fits like a champ. Just do like they said and start in the middle. One thing you should do is to first clean the area of the trunk the spoiler sticks to with alcohol. The alcohol will remove any wax residue/dirt and allow the tape to adhere properly. Once the tape is stuck, it's stuck. Try not to wash the car for a couple days afterward to allow the tape to cure. Feel free to ask any questions you like. I've done ALOT of these spoilers on G's, A4's, BMWs, etc. None have ever fallen off.

Yokohama AVS ES 100s (245/40/18). They handle awesome but as they wore, they got super loud. I'm going to Goodyear Eagle F1s next. My freind has them on his M5 and after 20,000 miles, they are still quiet.
Oh, and personally, I am not a fan of the OEM wing. JMO.
