For instance - take the magnaflow Camero muffler - one of the first and only direct swap mufflers for the coupes. It gave nothing but drone and deep deep sound. It took Magnaflow 3 years to bring out their exhaust for the cars, and they re-engineered that muffler to add reflection principles to it for effectiveness. I understand it sounds pretty good, but drones a bit for he coupes after about 750 miles or so when it is mostly seasoned.

The engines in the engines in the sedan put our much more low end pulse than the coupes. The cams are different, and I'm not sure about other issues. Also, the car is longer and it has much more metal in the cab, which is a paradise for drone. The stock resonator, that flat ugly behemuth, is really effective at drowing the drone...but the performance degration of the smaller pipe and the bends they put it through to get it quiet, is what we all have to do without, and try to re-produce in a 'pretty and effective' way.

Actually, chambered (baffled) mufflers in my experience were very poor perfomers. I raced a 10 sec 2000 Camaro SS and tried various exhausts. Our car club also did flow tests on different mufflers. The magnaflow did pretty well as I remember. The Flowmaster actually flowed less than the stock GM restrictive muffler!! I've always liked the Flowmaster sound (especially on the 5.0 Mustangs) but I'd never use them again after the tests we did. When you think about it, it makes sense. Baffled mufflers essentially disrupts the air flow inside. It makes sense to me that straight through designs would flow better.

what people tend to forget is that exhaust does not flow continiuosly, it is pulsed.......that is why a flwo bench measured of mufflers don't work.

If a flowmaster were so restrictive, how do they make more power? and they do work, too.

I just read throught his whole post........

I have a suggestion for the guys at FI......as I have a custom dual exhaust on my sedan using all magnaflwo mufflers........keep at it.

go with a dual 2.5" in/out center "x" muffler from magnalfow, then follow that up with a 2.5" resonator on each pipe . finally, finish it off with a pair of 2.5" magnaflow mufflers, in tha back....

The intitial result is a little loud, but these mufflers significantly quiet down with a couple days of use. the drone will completely disappear. There is no rasp (even with test pipes.) This exhaust is by far the best sounding exhaust I have ever heard on a VQ!! Trust me....drive these combimation around for a few days and it will perfect itself!!!

LOOk at these pics:

Is this something you could just bolt on or does it require special process...if I went to a custom muffler shop and gave them this list could they do it is there some special mojo in there somewhere?

The only issue is most shops don't have mandrel tubing benders, so you end up with crush bent tubing.
