Auto dimming rearview mirror

Hi again guys. I just got a 2004 G35 base leather sedan so I don't have the auto dimming rearview mirror. To those who have this mirror, do you like the autodimming feature? Also, can the 350Z's auto dimming mirror be installed onto the G35 sedan easily?

Re: Auto dimming rearview mirror

Hey- welcome, man. I've got the auto-dimming mirror and I personally like it. I also have 21% tint on my back window, which keeps it from "overdoing" it by adjusting to too sensitive of light. The only downside is that you can't make out shapes too terribly well if it's really dark out; only lights. I like to know if there's a cop behind me. So far I've only turned it off once, so... so far so good.

I've seen them installed post-purchase-- you might want to check into it. There's the ability to plug into the power source already wired into the car at the front of the roof liner, so it shouldn't be a problem. I'm not sure of what would keep it from working (350Z), but I'll look into it; you might want to check out some mod sites for the compatibility. Good luck,

G

Note that the G35's autodimming mirror also includes the Homelink universal garage remote feature. I believe it's all self-contained, if you can get the part.

Re: Auto dimming rearview mirror

I'd like to get the auto dimming mirror solely for the Homelink functionality. With 30% tint on the rear winshield (which is NOT superdark) I've never felt that any lights behind were too bright. With tint you'll be fine... unless you like having the toys....

Dito that Chinee! Our 2000 Max has the homelink and I love it.
Hate having my Genie remote cliped to my sun visor. That's
what I get for being too cheap to buy a new G35, mine's a
used one. Oh well....................

I've never seen the point in stepping up to a luxury car and NOT getting the premium package.

Re: Auto dimming rearview mirror

A luxury car should have all the goodies STANDARD.
When we looked at the Acuras, my wife and I sat in
the TL on the showroom floor. The salesman came up to us
and said "The only option on this car is the navigation system,
everything else is standard." I wish Infiniti did it the same.

Re: Auto dimming rearview mirror

Simple economics says you need to build cars to price points. That is why there is a G35 at $28K and a G35 at $38K. the TL starts at about $34K which might be out of the reach of some buyers that have only budgeted $28K for a car.

I have the auto dimming mirror. It's a nice feature but if my car didn't have it I probably would not add it on. The best feature I like is the home link. One thing I have noticed is among other rattles, the mirror casing vibrates when I turn up the bass on the stereo.

Re: Auto dimming rearview mirror

A good point was made-- if there's dark tint, you needn't worry. You can also get a homelink visor, you know, perhaps there's one made for Nissan/Inf. models that would match our interior? No idea, but hey, worth a shot.

I'm with ryoken, too-- I can't get any car without having it "loaded"... more toys, better resale, etc. If money's an issue though, I doubt I'd be so cavalier about it... haha... cavalier-- do those even come loaded?

Re: Auto dimming rearview mirror

It depends on your personal preferences. Money's always an issue. I'd rather have a smaller and/or older car that's loaded, than a brand new car without the goodies.

Re: Auto dimming rearview mirror

I have the homelink and 5% tint on the rear windows. It still dims for me, although I just went about a week w/o realizing that it was turned off. I think it’s a fun toy and the garage door remote feature has a better range than my original garage door opener. Now, the garage is up before I even turn to pull in to my driveway. I like that!

Re: Auto dimming rearview mirror

Hi guys. I didn't expect to see so many replies! Yea, my car is totally base because it was all I could afford at the moment. I wasn't into all of those other features that came with the premium package, especially the sunroof. I might be interested in the auto dimmer later when I get a place of my own since it does have the homelink feature. But with the car as is, I'm very happy with it.

Glad you love your car! That's the important part The toys just add frosting to the already-delicious cake.
