Can we adjust our headlights?

When I had my headlamps replaced last week for the melted
fog/hi beam housing, I think the service tech set the low
beams too low. The lights don't show much more than the
fogs do. Can I adjust them?

Re: Can we adjust our headlights?

Yes, you can. Here's a thread on how to do it along with some animated pics I posted of how to get the desired results... pray you don't have caps on your lights!

Anyone else experience xenon flickering? My stock xenons flicker up and down when i'm at a stop light shining at the car in front of me. Anyone else?

It's still a G thang!!

Re: Can we adjust our headlights?

Hmm... haven't noticed that. So far, solid. When I hit small bumps, etc. though, I do notice a shudder in them. That's to be expected in something that's adjustable, though. How bad is the flicker? Do you have to stare at it to even barely notice? If so, I'm just going to not look because I don't want it to bug me

GeoBau,

I have the non-premium halogens. Is the adjustment the
same? Since Infiniti just replaced them, I figure teh caps are
there.

Re: Can we adjust our headlights?

Oooh, just looked at your sig-- 03, not 03.5 when xenons were standard. I'd call the dealership and say "When you switched my headlights, they were installed so that the throw is way too low-- can this be fixed at home, or do I need to come in?" Make sure you talk to your tech, not a service manager. They're more likely to give you an honest answer.

Seeing as it's a mistake with their installation, they have no grounds to charge you. All of this, however, is moot if it's the same procedure. There are some instructions in that thread for cutting the caps w/ a Dremel, as well. Anyone else out there care to opine?

Re: Can we adjust our headlights?

Just called my service advisor at Infiniti about this. She
thought they could not be adjusted! I had to enlighten her
about the caps and such. Then she asked the technician,
and he told her that he thought the adjusting screws were
for the high beam only. But that they would look it up in
the manual and get back to me. I don't think these guys
know half of what we do. Anyway, she said if it could be
done, they would do it for me. Do you know if the lows
can be adjusted? Do the screws do both hi and low?

Re: Can we adjust our headlights?

Yea, I noticed my xenon's flickering when the engine is running. I figured the lamps are probably spring isolated from the car to keep the filaments from jumping up and down with engine vibration and road bumps (to prolong the life of the bulb). When you are sitting idle you notice the bulbs bouncing at whatever resonance freq. the bulbs and spring have. Thats just my guess. Anyone confirm?

Re: Can we adjust our headlights?

GeoBau,
Thanks a million! The caps were not installed on the new
headlamps, oh lucky me! Following your link, I think I can
see how to do it. One of those gars seems to spin freely.
There really isn't a screw to turn, just the rear-most gear.
I will need to wait for darkness to see the results. Do I want
to turn the gear completly 1 or 2 turns, or just 1 or two gear
cogs? The Infiniti Service Rep appears to know much less
than we do about our cars.

Re: Can we adjust our headlights?

I turned the gears 16 cogs on each side according to the
instructions. They are perfect now. This forum is the BEST!
Thanks for the help. Sheesh....the Infiniti service people are
ignorant about our cars. Thank goodness we arn't.

Re: Can we adjust our headlights?

Great-- glad to hear it worked out. I turned mine quite a bit, raising them about 8 inches at 15ft away. Seemed to work for me, and no one's flashed me with their lights to let me know they're too bright yet.

Unrelated note-- I was driving the FX last night, and someone flashed their lights to tell me to turn off my brights. Problem was, they weren't on. I flashed my lights back, and the guy slammed on his brakes and sorta swerved to the side of the road. Oops... I guess they were on "incinerate"
