The gearbox is very notchy but I take that as normal and I actually enjoy driving it now. When I drive a friends GTI or Civic I'm like "WTF is this smooth crap?" when I slide it into gear.

No replacement as of yet.
And since it was brought up earlier, on my '05 6MT Sedan I have had the service bulletin work done the rear-axle since it was clicking like crazy everytime I was going less then 10 MPH.

The problem is the crappy synchros. Most people seem to have 2nd and 5th gear go out.

There is a HUGE thread over on my350z with people listing how many they have been through. Some are on #3 or 4.

I had mine replaced at about 12K.

I heard this semi high pitched whine. It only happened above 25 MPH, and it didn't matter if the clutch was in or out.

For the longest time, I couldn't figure out where the noise was coming from until a friend was riding with me. He listened around while I was driving, and then he pointed right at the gear shift.

As soon as I found that out, I had an appointment. They said there were some metal shavings inside the transmission, and that they would replace it.

2004 6MT Sedan, 59000 miles, no gearbox problems.

Clutch is noisy and sort of chattery. Also I do have clicking from right rear axle. Dealer fixed the left after three tries. Gotta take it back again to get them to fix the right side. Great car, absolutely laughable service.

2005 6MT sedan, 20K miles, to be replaced next week (this thread is very timely for me lol). They said they do not repair transmissions, hence the replacement.

The transmission grinds going from 3rd to 6th, a common shift pattern when pulling onto a highway (for me, anyway). They suggested this was too large of a ratio gap for the sychro's to handle. I will now always pass the shifter through 4th & 5th before engaging 6th. Honestly, I don't see how some of you folks drag these 6MT's. Guess that's why some of the 350Z guys are on their 3rd/4th?

As for some of the other comments, I too think the clutch engages too high, and often times inconsistently? I had the clicking rear axle; the dealer performed an 03 or 04 coupe TSB on my sedan which fixed the problem. It was a matter of tightening some bolts. I now occasionally still hear a single click, but attribute this to brake pads moving slightly within the caliper. The wife's MDX clicks like crazy for this reason. Also, I don't have a whining gearshift, but who knows, maybe the new transmission will....
