It should not be clicking anymore. I have an 05 and had the clicking, its completely fixed now. They should have lubed it up before tightening it.

2004 Coupe w/42K miles on it.

Its at the dealer right now for replacement. I heard what sounded like a blown engine. Unbelievably loud noises almost like engine knock. The car turned off a couple of times while slowing down, and eventually started to lose power/acceleration. Dealer says the trans locked up and bogged the engine down. Hopefully thats the extent of it.

I have a 2005 6mt coupe and the tranny rattles like crazy when the car is cold. It has 14800 miles and this just started happening last week. I'm taking it to the dealer on Friday in Ramsey, NJ. I will keep you all posted. I'm pissed that a 40K car is doing this.

Tranny

6000 miles = 2 tranny's replaced by the dealer and 1 drive shaft also replaced by the dealer. A bunch of electronic gremlins as well. I have a meeting tomorrow with the dealership and the Infiniti Canada rep. I will be trying to get them to replace my car with a new one!!!

44K miles/2004.... no issues.... adjusted clutch to engage lower. all the family cars are stick and this is the hardest for me to consistently shift smoothly even after 3 years of ownership. it does make me concentrate more on my shifting and driving because i always want the perfect shift.

i can shift smoothly driving granny style or gettin on it. it's the normal speed stuff that seems the hardest.

2004 @ 60k. No problems at all.

I had the rear axle clicking at one point but the dealer quickly fixed it, it was a TSB, and not related to the tranny.

I believe that's due to the dual mass, very heavy flywheel. I'm thinking about getting a lightweight flywheel for this reason alone. I've driven manuals all my life (well, since I could drive) and yes, driving this car smoothly is hard work.

Doogie,
If you go lightweight i would be interested to know if it helps any. i really love the car and plan to keep it a while but improving the shiftability would be a bonus.

Timely post I just had mine done about a month ago before I went on vacation. The car had about 41K miles, but I complained to the dealer on previous visits about grinding into 5th. FINALLY they heard it last time. The shifter went from being hard to throw into gears to very hard to throw especially into 5th and 6th. I thought maybe it would have gotten easier like the '05 revision.

I'm also glad to hear that I'm not the only one having trouble driving the car smoothly. I too have been driving manuals for years and almost 3yrs with this one and I still have trouble. I find myself starting out in 2nd when driving slowly around my neighborhood.

I remember the first day I got the car. I stalled 3 times trying to get car off the lot.

Chatter? wow me too!!!! hmmmm....kind of interesting. Plus, I get really bad chatter and clankety clank when I shut off the engine. Is all this normal?

By the way, I was just in Europe with my bro and his new 335i (he did a European Delivery) and the first time he finally let me get behind the wheel I was able to smoothly shift on the first try. The shifter was a bit too soft IMO, but it beats the drama involved in having a civilized drive in the G at times.

Oh man + 1 on that!!

Shifting when getting on it...no problem. Shifting when driving like miss Daisy, no problem. Shifting when diving normal...bumpy bump, look like an a-hole

Anyone getting a whining sound on the new tranny? I read somewhere else that some people have had a whine leading up to the failure and no whine after replacement. Mine was exactly the opposite. I never had a whine before the replacement and now I have a pretty loud whine.

Easiest way to know if you have the rear axle click is just to slowly let it roll into first and then put in into reverse. If you hear it then just have your advisor know that when you back up or go forward it makes a clicking noise. As for the tranny, they are noisy, synchros are a bit weak but the few trannies that Ive replaced here have been driver lack of ability to understand how the hydaulic clutch works so they just rest their feet on the clutch pedal and eat up clucth and tranny all at once. Not really the cars fault there just need to understand it a bit better. Power shifting does wonders to the trannies as well lol Ive had a few like that that are just toasted. Again not the cars fault just lack or driving experience and knowledge of the car. Thats just my opinion based on what Ive seen so far with these cars.

do u work at sawgrass infiniti by chance? if so i needa take my g to u so u can what all this fuss is about. as i said to the infiniti rep who called from canada asking how my infiniti experience is going....i rather not get into it but ive taken my car in 10 times for the axle clicks alone and yes it still does it!!! PITAAAAA! ive brought it to sawgrass back to iocc numerous times without any positive results actally ended up worse b/c everytime i take my G in something gets damaged without a doubt =/ ive owned my g for a little over a year and have had 6 shifter housings replaced and have service records as thick as a bible (and thats not even all of them)! GRRRRrrrr anyway i am now dealing with my tranny issues AGAIN due to the loud A$$$ clicks it makes coming from the pedal (input shaft) that can be heard from ouside the car as well! who fault is it infiniti's or my g's!?
