2005 sedan coupe midpipe installed

Just finished installing a coupe midpipe on my AT 2005 sedan. Installation was pretty easy. The only real issue I had was taking the sedan midpipe off the rubber hangers, even when soaked with WD40. The hanger ends "flares" out a little so it's a pretty snug fit when trying to pull them off the rubber hanger, otherwise the rest of the installation was simple.

Sound wise, it does add more of a deeper exhaust note than the stock sedan midpipe at startup. On the road, the volume is close, if not slight louder than the stock sedan midpipe but it has a slight deeper and a little more of a "raspy" tone to it. On the freeway and cruising at steady speeds, sound is exactly like the stock sedan midpipe. There might be a slightly lower exhaust note when you get to about the 75-80mph range. Barely noticeable change.

Regarding droning, There is very slight bit of droning at aprox in the 1700-2000 rpm range, most noticeable if the car is under load in the wrong gear. You have to pretty much "bogged" the engine before you hear this. I say 95% of the time, the tranny is smart enough to downshift. No drone if you are on a straightaway and the tranny is in the wrong (higher) gear.

Power wise, feels a little stronger off the line, maybe 1-2 hp down low. I really haven't open it up on top end but the butt dyno feels a little more throttle response on the freeway (ex: passing, merging, etc). I did this mod strictly for the sound so I didn't expect much power gains from it.

Overall, I think the mod is worth it if you really want a little more exhaust note from your car. If you are not into modifying cars, personally I would say
keep the stock sedan midpipe.

Let me know if anbody has any questions.

the slight gain you speak of is from the slight weight loss in going to the coupe midpipe...

FenixL1P,

Yes, that's probably part of it too but the car does seem to rev up a little smoother. The coupe midpipe does have cleaner looking bends than the sedan midpipe, so probably a combination of a few things. Any power increase with the coupe midpipe is probably not worth mentioning.

Interested in selling your sedan middy? I have the coupe middy on my 03.5 and I don't like the droning...although 90% of the time the exhaust sounds great.

RocketG35,

Sorry, I think I'm going to hang on to it for now, just in case I decided to swap it back down the road.

Btw, how bad is your droning? When I did a search about a coupe midpipe on a sedan, I notice that when somebody mention droning with the coupe midpipe, they usually had a 2003 sedan. Wonder if something is different? Are you still running the stock muffler?

for me, sometimes my exhaust sounds really quiet, sometimes it sounds like the Z. depending on the weather, my car sounds most like the Z when the air is very warm and dry. other times, it sounds a lil better but barely noticeable until past 4000 when my breather mods begin to scream..
