If I were looking at FWD sporty sedans, I'd instantly be at the Toyota dealership looking at a Camry SE V6. They're faster, 6 speed auto, 268hp (14.4s@99mph stock), better handling/braking, better looking, sport a great interior, and they have Toyota reliability.

I don't know what a 17 yo would want with a maxima unless you want to a VIP style to it.

just go get a HOOOOOOOONDA! LOL! go get a 1990 crx. fix it up and get mad props from the other ricers for building a nice clean classic thats also fast. but only if you have about 4-7g to spend. haha, but trust me, you'll get alot of props for it along with some laughs. i did it, but still loved every moment of it.
now its time to move onto a VIP-style G35 sedan!

Listen, I went from a 5th gen (2003) FULLY loaded to a 2004 X. The 2003 Max was the last "good looking" max. The 6th gen are but ugly, look and feel like boats, and just don't do it for me.
--> Interior quality if slightly better on the G35x
--> Drivability is FAR better in the G35x
--> The max was more fun to drive straight line (it was a stick)
--> The max had 5-6 mpg improvement to the G across the board
--> I think the Max is a better all-around family car, the G is tighter, and more serious.
--> The exterior styling is much nicer in the G, but the Max is no slouch
--> Service support on the G is FAR FAR superior then the Max
If you are coming from a 740, you will dissappointed by the finish on BOTH cars. It's plastic (not leather) and it's not going to look as high-end.
The 740 is a tank, it's reliable, it's a mover. I'd keep it and save your bucks.

the 7 is like a tank yea if i could keep it i would but everyday theres a lot of common problems that occur and thing is those problems cost an arm and a leg to fix...i need new cats those are gonna cost me 2500 but magnaflow has universal cats that i can get for 88 shipped to my door but its illegal in CA so i have to buy those cats. aftermarket cats are like 800 and theres many other things that get messed up so thats y i dont want a german car anymore it was fun to have but now i want a asian car

There are problems, and there are problems. I didn't catch earlier that you had $2500 worth of repairs you needed. Little, $100-200 repairs every couple of months are still a lot cheaper than a "new" car.
I guess the hardest part of buying an used car with 40K miles is how was it driven. If the previous owner didn't maintain it properly, abused it, etc, it may be a troublesome car that turns you off the brand. If they took good care of it, and it wasn't a lemon, it should be reliable.

I traded in my '98 Maxima for the G35x last year because I loved the look of the G35, as well as the AWD if needed. I thought the new Maximas were too large looking, and as long as I can fit behind the wheel, and my golf clubs can fit in the truck, who cares if people find it tight in the back seat!
