Paint the moldings.

I was wondering whoever has done this if they used a spray can or a paint spray gun. The guy from sherwin automotive said it'd cost 50 bucks for three spray cans of KYO but he said that the metallic effect isn't going to look right out of the can. So i asked a shop how much it'd be if i took off all the parts i wanted to be painted and buy the paint and he said it'd be $100.

1) So take off all the parts and spray paint it myself for $65 (primer, sealer, sand paper, paint).

2) Take all the side moldings off and front bumper, buy the paint and have the shop paint it for $150.

3) Don't take anything off or buy any paint and let the shop paint it for 350.

Please chime in with any opinions on what i should do.

Make sure they add the flex agent to the paint for the front bumper.

I would take them off and have them paint it.

options 2 and 3 should be the only 2 ways you consider. you definitely wouldnt drive without front bumper and sideskirt and rear bumper right....? if thats the case, then the next part in decision is...is taking off all those body parts and the reinstalling it worth $100 of labor to you? if it does, then save yourself some trouble and just leave the car there and have them do it for you. I'd assume they wont paint match if you provide the paint then they'll just paint with that you provided them? I'd go for #3 at least you get warranty.

option #2
shop labor = $150
paint material at sherwin = $100

option #3
everythin included in option #2
taking off pieces and putting it back on = $100 labor to self
perfect paint match = included
warranty= included

If you decided to go with option 2 then make sure they warranty their work and not blame it on "bad paint" when you bring it in. Also, post pix when you're done!!!

serioulsy get someone to paint it professionaly. painting the moldings is especially important because you want someone to blend the colors properly. Painting on eurethane will give off a slightly darker/lighter shade of the paint you are using. I recently painted my moldings and can telll you whatever you want or need to know regarding the painting of them

under no circumstance should you use spray can. if you want to save money, do it right the first time or I bet your G will look like all those remorseful civics and integras that painted their moldings to 'paint match'.

go big or go home.

cant wait to see your new moldings!
