The best would be to get a set of oem D2R HID headlights with the bulbs and ballasts.

After that one of the Phillips or Hella aftermarket kits. They are the best but about twice as much as the off brand ones. Either way make sure and get one of the kits with internal ignitors as the other ones don't always fire and the ignitors go out pretty often. My friend's car audio place was installing them for a while and after about 4-6 months they started to get a bunch of kits with bad ignitors returned.

i wouldnt even suggest getting the oem headlights as their HID pattern sucks!

go straight to a retrofit

They are not projectors so the pattern does suck but it was still way more light than my GF's 05' Mazda3 with projectors and an aftermarket HID kit.

but its not even that all reflectors suck, the old 99-04 gs has pretty decent reflector HID's, a lot of vehicles with stock halogens have better optics than the G IMO.... tim, u have a sweet retro, you know exactly why u did it, and i bet it was only 50% wow factor

You are right. To be honest it was ~40% wow factor, 25% lets see if I can do it, and the other 35% was split trying to get more light output and being nice to other drivers. The thing I hate about reflectors, especially HID is that they are so bright on oncoming drivers. Projectors (when aimed properly) don't bother oncoming drivers anywhere near as much. Don't get me wrong, I would not have done it if I was not going to gain some performance from it. If you have the money a projector retrofit is far superior to any reflector out there. All the oem's are going to projectors these days.

Those would be ok. Are you going more for color or light output? If you want color than 6000k is a good choice, if you want output stay as close to 5000k as possible (4300-5000). Above that you loose output for more color.

No I have not heard anything bad about them.

In case you didn't know the low beam on yours is an H1 and the fog/high is an H4.

Good luck!!!

You could do it and then just sell them when you are going to turn it back in. The buyer could just trade you their headlights and some cash.
