Was putting in a new battery Optima Red 35

and noticed something odd. When you take the battery out, the bottom of the tray has two deep recesses with bolts. The both times I removed my battery, these holes had puddles of water. Now the tray is plastic and won't rust. But the bolts that are at the bottom (two of the 4 that hold the tray down) do. I removed the tray and looked under it. It's flat and there seems to be a drain hole near the fender. Since I didn't particularly want water sitting there forever, I drilled two drainage holes near the bolt holes (underside of the tray, near those bolt holes) there are two indented cast areas. I drilled two holes there so the water could train and have room to move out around the tray.

Anyone else notice this? You'd have to remove the battery for some reason to even tell there was water accumulation though.

It rains up in here in the NW and I've washed my engine down once. But I've cleaned up the tray once after I powerwashed the engine bay and there was water down there again.

So as a precaution I used a gob of anti-seize on those tray bolts. One for the rust issue and the other two for any battery corrosion that likes to get on the threads.

Yes, I noticed this as well. I didn't do anything about it though. Probably a good idea.
