Calling 03/04 owners

Who has upgraded to the 05-06 brakes? If you answered yes, was it worth it?

I did a mild upgrade....Stoptech with Hawk pads. I may go BBK one day. I would think the OEM stuff would be expensive unless you get them used.

Forget the Infiniti brakes! Go aftermarket BBK, Stoptech, Wilwood, etc.
Well worth the money.

I have an 03 and I upgraded with the OEM brakes off of a 05 coupe with the sport package. For me, I think it was well worth it. I paid $450 for the full set (brake lines, rotors, pads, calipers) all around in pretty much 'like new" condition. I don't know if this is an EXCELLENT price, because I don't see too many people selling theirs, but I think the price was very reasonable.

I wanted something new, but I didn't really want to spend $1600 on the Racing Brake OEM upgrade or even $659 for a Stoptech Stage 2 kit. I've driven 05 loaner cars in the past and the stopping power has always been more then enough for me.

Plus, I still have the option of upgrading the pads and rotors of the 05s in the future and still retain the larger 2 piston front calipers.

Another immediate advantage is that there's a HUGE reduction of visible brake dust. I mean its seriously been like 3 weeks since I've washed my car and my rims look cleaner then they would after 3 days with the 03 brake pads.

The next advantage is the feel of the 05 pads is a lot more normal, in regards to the bite of the pads. With the 03's I really had to learn how to stop smoothly so that my passengers didn't feel like throwing up after every trip in my car. The initial bite of the 03 was great in stopping impact but I always had to be extra careful in the modulation of the brakes. I think the 05s stop just as well, except that the bite comes at the very end of the pedal.

The final advantage, for me, was just looks. The 05s slightly larger rotors on both the front and the rear. Its not a crazy increase in size, but its noticable to me.

is it possible to put the Brembo brakes I've seen on the Coupes onto a sedan? I'd love to have a set of those

Thats the kind of input I neeeded to hear. So you had no problems bleeding the system or any problems at all because of the different brake booster? If you have pic of the car with the 05 brakes on, can you post it up.

I've been wanting to do a frt/rear conversion like this at some point. It's not a big need as the G already has world class brakes. I do believe all have the same master cylinder bore sizes? Not sure how a diff brake booster would affect things too much?

Nope no problems at all with the brake booster or anything, its a direct swap and it was pretty easy. There was just one bolt on the fronts that I had to use a breaker bar.

OHHH and for the rears only, since the rotors are slightly larger then on the 03/04 cars, you have to trim the dust plate with either a dremel or something that can cut metal.

I also rebled the brakes with some aftermarket brake fluid, I used ATE Superblue.

I'm going to attempt to install a set of Stillen sways on my car today. I can take pics of the brakes while I do it when I get home.

Wow are they that much? I only paid ~$1800 for my 4-pot fronts and oem rears with shipping. But that was a good deal wen they first came out.

Yes but most people selling them want just as much as a new aftermarket BBK.

Yea man, I thought it'd be cheaper too! But I went on Racing Brake's site and the front kit alone is $878.41 (not including tax and shipping)

http://www.racingbrake.com/350Z_non_...1-311-0-01.htm

The rear kit is $539.88 (not including tax and shipping)

I don't how much cheaper you can get them from other vendors but I'm sure it can't be that much cheaper.

^I think that's about as cheap as you are going to get for BBK. I don't even know if anyone else makes a kit to use with our OEM calipers except racing brake. You will need to get a full BBK and those are like 2K plus
