Hot Smell?....G35X

Hello,

New to the forum, but not new to the greatness of the G35. I have an 06 G35X, and I am getting this real hot smell (almost smells like catalytic converter, but it's not.) coming from the cabin vents. You can also smell it outside the vehicle in the front of it. It is not there all the time, I usually smell it after moderate to agressive driving.

I am also sure it is not the undercoating. I also really hope it is not the Attesa ETS AWD system.

Any help would be great, especially if you have had a similar experience.

Thanks,

World Container

Just got my 35x yesterday. I believe it's normal for a new car. Mine smells like that right now when I'm driving it. My fx45 was the same way. Just some of the chemical coatings, probably on the exhaust and other hot parts. Should go away.

I just bought a new '06 G35x in September. I had the same burning smell for about the first 1,000 miles or so. I agree with the others, I think it's just some sort of coating they use on the exhaust (or maybe leftover oil from manufacturing). I wouldn't worry about it.

It's weird though, because this is my fourth new car (including one other nissan with the VQ engine) and none of them ever had this smell...

WC, you say that the smell is coming from your cabin vents...do you have the climate control set to outside air? I never noticed a smell inside the cabin in my car, it was only after I got out of the car (but I almost always leave my climate control on recirculate).

Thanks All,

I have noticed the same smell in other new X models. I am thinking it is just a new car smell.

By the way the oil is fine and brand new, couldn't find any plastic bags, and my climate control is mostly set on auto. So whereever the Japanese scientist decides to get the air from, is usually fine with me .

Have you folks ever have any problems with the springs in the cup holder?

Cheers,
