I think it really depends on what kind of 06 inventory your local dealer has. I found one local to me that had a lot full of them and they were dealing. I got more for my trade than I would have gotten for a private party value and they knocked 4500 off without any negotiation. I then asked for something unreasonable and worked it down to 6500 off.
If you can find a dealer that is still sitting on the 06s with the 07s having arrived at most dealers then they should be willing to work a pretty decent deal. My msrp was 36,XXX for an 06 auto with sport and premium b packages.

I bought a new 35x on Friday, 5800 off msrp and got the exact color scheme I desired. I could have saved 400-500 more at other dealers if I was more flexible on the color. I will put this car through the endurance testing as I do 45-50K per year. I just sold my 2000 with 292k on it. Seems like the G should outlive a Subaru!!!!!!!

I checked on a 2006 tonight too, was thinking of trading the '04 to get rid of the braking issues. (I'll end up with Hawk HPS pads I guess)
Anyway, they knocked $4900 off the car I wanted. They only wanted to give me between $16 and $20K for my '04 with 20K miles. KBB says 21775 for excellent and 20610 for good trade ins.
The kicker is the current interest rate: 6.2% on sedans. This was the deal killer for me. I'll wait a few weeks to a month and check again.

Well I did it. You really have to beat the crap out of the sales guy though. I got an '06 DG lease with premium B and the sport package for $470/mo 42 months with $1500 down. Also they gave me $24,500 for my '05 6mt. All in all I think I did pretty well.
I looked at everything else, but I couldn't part with the G.

What kinda mileage limits do you have on your new lease?

The most important things whether in buying or leasing are the price you paid and the interest rate if financed. The price should be related to the dealer invoice (his cost). For 2006, you should definitely pay below invoice. MSRP and particularly monthly payment are not as relevant as the above two. The old salesman's trick is to hook you with a monthly payment that you can afford. You should never lease more than 36 months. Leasing, in short, is simply you pay the depreciation of the car for the term of the lease, 24. 36 months, PLUS the interest on the depreciation. It's that simple!
