Ticking sound when in park
#1
Is it normal?
Guys.... when i press the brake padle, im hearing a ticking sound coming from right underneath the gear lever when in park (not by the brake padle). It ticks when i press the brake padle and when i release it. It seems to be coming from under the center console and wasn't there till yesterday. I called the dealer up and service dept. says its normal. But it wasn't there before. Sound goes away when I am in neutral. Any idea what this is? Its definitly not in your sedan.... is it?
Thanks.
Thanks.

it is the lock that releases the car ffrom being in park.. when in park.. you cant shift to another gear.. the brake is pressed which moves that lock.. and it is the lock that is moving which is clicking.. i havea 05 5AT. .and it doest the same thing.. if u put ur hand on the shifter.. u feel it too.. =)

All automatics have an assembly in the shifter that prevents the driver from moving out of park without the brake pedal pressed. You're hearing the solenoid that moves this interlock assembly.
In fact, that's why there's a small slot with a label of something like "shift interlock" in the gear shift plate; with a screwdriver, you can flip this assembly manually if something is acting up (or the car needs to be towed).
It's certainly normal; mine's produced this noise from day one, and mile seven.
