Finally got my custom true dual exhaust on, w/pics

Well I been planning this for some time and finally the car came back from the LSD swap and all the parts finally came in. Here's what it is.

Acostca Racing custom stainless steel cat pipes with Magnaflow high flow cats. Then it flows into my copy of the stillen X-cross over pipe that I made by cutting two flowmaster Y-collectors together. Then I have two Magnaflow 18" by 4" mufflers as resonators. It all ends up in two Injen SES mufflers side by side in the stock location. I refused to do the system with a single crimp bend so its all mandrel bends. Only thing I don't like is the mufflers hang down to low and I don't like how the routed the right side pipe after the sway bar under the spare tire wheel well. Both things I plan on changing in a few weeks. I initially ran it without the silencers in, whoa man tooooo loud. With them in, it sounds perfect, very simular to the sound clips of the 350Z Injen ses exhaust sound clips floating around. But I don't have as much rasp or crackling and to my ears it's a bit deeper sounding.

I haven't driven it that much, but I do feel a very noticeable increase in power. Now I really want to get it dyno'd, I don't have a base line, all I want to know is how much I have right now. I don't own anything that can record the sound, sorry.

Heres a shot of the high flow cat pipes.

I don't have a baseline dyno and I haven't taken the car to dyno it yet either. So how much hp, I don't know yet, but it does feel like I'm getting some good power increases out of it.

As far as how much.
I bought the Acosta Racing Y-pipe with it's high flow cats off of a Z owner for a very good deal, $250. The X-crossover cost $80, all the mandrel bends were purchased as seperate parts and 75% of the cutting was done by me in advance in my garage, cost $120. The two Injen SES mufflers were $380. The Magnaflow resonators, welding and install work was $430.
Total $1260, which is higher than I was thinking it was. But I have the design I wanted and high flow cat pipes. Frankly I didn't think the shop would be changing me as much labor as they did, I mean I did most of the cutting a fitting at home and 100% of the design work. I think I got billed for being never leaving them in peace while they were working

That is cool. So do u think if I just get y-pipes that make the exaust true dual exaust and give the car more power?

Please forgive my absolute ignorance on this subject. What is the purpose of the X crossover? Is there a reason you can't or shouldn't just bring two seperate pipes thru that middle section(2nd picture) all the way to the back? Thanks in advance for information rather than flaming : )

Your install looks great to my untrained eye. Congratulations!

THAT'S WHAT I WANT!! Borla, Stillen, HKS are you listening? I like this better than the mess of running the mufflers to the opposite sides of the rear. Two mufflers in the location of the stock single looks great and keeps the sedan exhaust unique from the coupe. Very nice, Gsedan35.

Not to mention, it neatly avoids the problem with the fuel-vapor-module-thingy that's in the passenger-side muffler well.

That's the "mess" I was referring to.

You got me confused, a Y-pipe, as in what the car has stock, takes 2 pipes and merges them into one. Are you asking if you can take one of the aftermarket Y-pipes and hack off the Y-collector and theirby making yourself the beginnings of a true dual setup? It would be more effective and cheaper to just buy four 45 degree bends of JcWhitney and have a muffler shop create the same. Hit me back with some more thoughts.

Looks great but I would prefer the exhaust on both sides like in the coupe.

I understand how connecting the two sides is better for power but after you connect them how separating the exhaust back into two pipes any better than one larger pipe?
