Those who use MANUMATIC

14.4s@97mph in manumatic and 14.8s@95mph in auto. The early 2-3 and 3-4 shift kills the ET/MPH. I like having the 03/04 shift program because it works quite well at the track. I place the car in 2 and let the tranny shift the 1-2 itself, then I hold 2nd to 6400rpms, shift up to 3rd and hold it the whole way.
Around town I use either D or 4 depending on speed. I rarely shift all the gears when driving around town unless I'm feeling frisky. If I want to take sweeper/turns hard, I'll take the tranny down into the 2 or 3 depending on speed.

When I took my car to be serviced last month, they gave me a replacement car, usually they give me a 2005 G sedan which looks exactly like the one I own, but they say they keep getting more customers and less cars. (it's in the buyer's contract that whomever takes his/her Infiniti in for servicing, they get a temporary replacement until their car is done).
Anyway to get to the point...last time I ended up getting a 2003 sedan, which just happened to be the first G35 to make it to Kuwait, and it belonged to someone high up in management in the dealer, but they never sold it and kept it, so I got it as my replacement car. To be honest I was kind of excited because I would get to see the difference between this car and my car for the first time.
(In Kuwait, the 2005 G35 sedan and coupe were the first G35s to be officially released and sold to the public via official NISSAN/INFINITI dealer)
So yeah, a 2003 sedan in Kuwait was a rare item...so anyway, I take it out and the first thing I notice was that the steering wheel is lighter...and since I do enjoy going Manumatic from time to time, I gave it a try...and there was a HUGE difference between the 2003 and my 2005 G sedan.
The first thing I noticed was that the downshift on the 2003 was steadier and more firm, better engine braking. When I down shift in my '05 sedan, the RPM just revs up and then slows down in a very laggish way....this was NOT the case with the '03 sedan, the response was faster when downshifting, the engine would brake and THEN the rev would go up...which was the opposite of what my '05 does......I've never driven a manual so, I haven't a clue what to expect....does anyone know why Manumatic modes on each car is different? I mean I know there's a 20 HP increase for the 2005/2006 models, but somehow I don't think that's the reason.
in Short, Manumatic is FUN to drive when you want to have a sporty feeling to your car, but for me, it was MORE fun to drive on the '03 Sedan than my own G35....

I would enjoy having a 5AT for that 1.5 hours I sit in traffic each day but the reward is when the traffic is cleared and I can run through those gears. I had to order mine since the local dealership only had one 6MT at the time(a stripped model at that) but I would not change not now. The man-u is a nice feature but it feels so diff from the manual, I feel disconnected from the driving. I do love that they have the 05-06 5AT downshifts when you come to a stop..that is a nice touch.
