Frustrated First Time Buyer - G35 Sedan, 2004, Automatic

Hello,
I have always had a respect for Nissan as my first car out of school was a Nissan Altima and I was in love with it. I recently totaled my second car which was a Nissan Maxima. I then decided to buy a used 2004 G35 Sedan - Automatic. I love the car. The power [hp] and everything is great. There are a few things that I would have done to the interior. But I was ready to overlook all of its smaller issues and have a long relationship with my car. Until, it started rattling. Initially I thought that it must be some loose item in my car that must be causing the issue. But then I got so frustrated that I removed everything out of the car - cd, pens, anything that i could find. But the rattling continues. There are two locations - one is my the front passenger side airbag or the front mirror. I have not been able to find the exact location. The second is from the rear - this is infrequent. I have been so much in love with the car, that I decided to drive with the music louder than i would prefer. Now, I am to the point that either I will get it fixed in the next few months or I will make sure to sell the car and buy something more reliable. Has anyone had the same issue as me. I would hate to loose the car to some rattling that I would think should and could be fixed by the dealer. I am taking the car in on Friday. If you have seen or experienced similar issues with your 2004 G35 Sedan, I would love to hear from you. If I get it fixed I will update the site so that it could be a way for anyone out there with similar issues to get their car fixed. I have been searching on the web and am learning that rattling and sounds is a major problem with the G35.

Any help would be appreciated

Its the front mirror. Do a search with mirror rattle and you wil see a fix for it. I took apart the mirror and rolled up some tape between the mirror and the front cover so it had a small buffer between the two surfaces. That removed the mirror rattle. Some people used silicone and pieces of plastic. Its a shame to give up the car due to rattles so good luck to you.

I think we have all experienced some type of rattle in our G35's. I had the same rattle from the rear before, they replaced the rear parcel shelf and its all better now. I do admit though that particular rattle is very annoying.

i currently have my rear seats out b/c im having my rear tint redone (to cover brake light), and also re-wrapping the rear pillars with black leather instead of suede...possibly the rear deck itself too we'll see. it was fairly easy taking the seats out it took about 15 mnutes or so. the part i had difficulty with was 1 of the 2 lower/outer bolts i had to go out and buy and extended socket (9/16) b/c the bolt pops up too high....popping the middle console out took some muscle too! i used a rubber mallet to push it up! another thing i will attempt to get rid of the rattles is sticking some fabric in between the lid and the shelf

You're gunna sell a car because of a rattle? First, the dealer will fix rattles free of charge (assuming you're still under warranty). Second, atleast you're not dealing with engine problems and parts failing on you, like other companies. See what people say about BMW mechanical problems, Acura trannys, Audi electrical, not even gunna start on Ford haha... get the rattles fixed and enjoy your G.

the passenger side could just be the seatbelt metal tapping the leather seat... Mine does it all the time. (only when you dont have a passenger obviously)

Thank you

Dear fellow G35 owners,
Thank you for your input. After joining the forum and also reading through the bulletins and self-fixes, I am now determined to get rid of all the rattles in my car and also learn how to fix them if they come back again. I heard someone say that the rattles come back in summer since plastic inflates.
I will keep you posted on how I got my rattles to go away. Also, continue updating this thread with new info.
Thank you,
Kuldeep

took it to the dealer

As expected....the dealer could not hear the sound...but I expected this as there were 50 miles/hour wind gusts and it was raining ice. So, we agreed that when the weather clears out, I will call the service manager and take him out for a ride so that he can hear the rattling. He did keep my car to fix rattling from the passenger side airbag compartment. He kept the car whole day and put some silicon in the compartment [The service manager told me that that was the most frequent complaint and they knew how to fix it]. Guess what...after a day at the service center...the rattling still exists. However, my wife drove the car over the weekend while I sat on the passenger side and found the exact spot of the rattle in the front of the car. It comes from the defogger vents. I touch it and it goes away.

The crazy thing was that the loaner that they gave me a 06 G35X has at least 5 more rattles than my car.

All in all, I was happy to get my car back on Friday Evening and give away the loaner. My pursuit to get rid of all the rattles will continue over the next few months. I will not rest until they give it me in writing that it cannot be fixed. Then I will take it up with Infiniti/Nissan the company itself.
