I've heard of other G owners reporting extended high rpm warm ups. It must be a 6MT thing because a 2000rpm extended cold start with a 5AT would mean the car would tkae off hard without the brake.

As for the Altima, yeah, they're stinkers. We had a 94 and 97. With as bad as our Subaru stinks, I thought for sure the O2 sensors were crapped out, but my datalogger says all is good. It tested fine for Georgia emissions too about 6 months back. It still gets 23mpg in the city and 29mpg on the highway.
Truthfully I do not remember. I just remmeber it reving pretty high.

My 06' 6MT at a cold start goes all the way to 2300 but only for maybe 3 seconds then slowly declines from 2100 - 1400 - 1200 - 1000 as it warms up.

Yes I am sure, I have art pipes which are test pipes and gutted cats/test pipes are essentially the same thing. I have black tips too. The smell is from your gutted cats. Like I said, try the random question thread and they will all say the same thing.

One of the purposes of catalytic converters is to reduce hydrocarbon emissions. Take off the cats and you'll get a fuel odor smell.

Do you smell "unburnt raw fuel" or that smell you get when someone removes the cat (real stink). If it's gas, your cat is dead. If your car had a miss fire and sent raw gas to the cat, it will destroy it in short order (should have been a code thrown). If it just stinks, you may even have a cat or someone knocked the catalyst out of the unit and is running no cat. (is it loud?).

One last thing, does it stink while running after you have been driving for, say, a half hour or so, that gives the cat time to get up to proper temp (should take about 5 to 8 minutes)?

man my cars smells like unburnt fuel,u can smell it inside out if i stand next to the exhaust out i can smell it and i can smell it inside the car and ya i have gutted cats, took em 6 months ago and he gutted them without removing them...so basically they r like test pipes but narrower on a certain point inside the cat cuz the designof stocks cats is equal all through the the cat....when i punch the pedal the smell gets more especially on highways when im on low revs inside the city i dont smell it a lot but its still there...am afraid that theirs a leak somewhere...or it may be too rich a/f thnx guys appreciate it

That's the price you pay when you gut the cats or add test pipes. There's no leak. It's just that the odor is very persistent.

Then try to start our 01 Altima, phew.
FYI the G never revs to 2000 rpm on a cold start.

Highest I've seen it go is 1800 or a little under.
And yeah this is in Winnipeg winters.
