Re: OPEN SUNROOF , RAINING!!

That happened to me in an 86 Accord I used to have.. only the sunroof was closed and leaking. I didn't notice it for a couple of days. (It had been in a wreck, and was in the backyard waiting for me to put some parts on it -- going the do-it-yourself repair route.) When I got to it, there was 2 inches of water standing in the bottom of the car, and a distinct mildew smell.

I had to pull the plastic floorpan plugs out to drain the water, then shopvac the carpet repeatedly. Then pull all the seats and carpet out to clean/dry them properly to get rid of the mildew smell. These were cloth seats. Also, the engine computer module in that car was physically located under the passenger seat, and filled up and shorted out. I had to buy a new one to get the engine running again.

Water won't ruin the leather.. it is skin, after all. It does need to be dried. I'd say dry it off as best you can, and get it to a detailer ASAP. The sooner they get to it, the easier it will be for them to clean it up. Unless, of course, you want to clean it yourself...

And closing the sunroof when you exit the car might be a good habit to get into.

The fact that the worst consequence of driving drunk was some water in your car makes you one lucky (and very dumb) dude. Next time it might be a scattered mess of blood and brain tissue--hopefully only yours. Sorry, it had to be said.

in the future, if you do not have a bissell or shop vac, use newspaper weighted down with phone books, tool boxes, large sedintary pets - whatever. Abunch of stacked newspaper is awesome for absorbing water, but you have to keep changing it. Direct pressure forces it to absorb.

on the other hand, never offend the pizza gods again, and you may not have to worry about this.

Just one problem with using the newspaper, the ink will transfer, it may not show up on the graphite interior, but might on the carpet, since it's lighter, and by all means would show on the willow! I know this from knowing someone who delivered papers, and the inside of the car would look really bad on a damp day!
