Installed ENGINE DAMPER (dampener) with PROBLEM

Installed the engine torque dampener and now have a vibration problem. I made sure everything was super tight and nothing is touching it, yet when the car is in D or R and standing STILL, there is a really annoying vibration. When the car is in P, N or in motion, there is no vibration.

I had my friend sit in the car while its in D, while I looked in the engine bay... and when I press on it, the vibration pretty much stops. That would indicate that it's loose or something, but it's not 100%. I dunno wtf to do... but I guess tomorrow I'll be moving it around more.

Those who have done this mod, look at the pics to see if yours is installed the same...

By the way, that hose is not touching it. After the pic, I zip tied it away from the dampener.

I just took mine off and it looked the same to me. I did not have any vibration problems like you describe. My car is not an AT but I'm not sure how that would change things.

(*I only took it off because it would not clear the TT kit pipe*)

I read that the vibrations are expected when engine dampeners are installed.

That makes sense.

X - how bad is the vibration? If it's minor, that may be how it is...

I talked to Top-Speed, and they also told me that vibration is common. But this is like, crazy vibration. Sounds like my whole center console is shaking.

That's too much. I would try to loosen it a little and see if that helps.

I had the same problem when I installed mine. All the vibration went to the foot pedal but its expected because what your doing is transfering that engine torque momentum to the trannying to minimize any lost of power. And when normally the engine sways towards the right and you have that damper the vibration ends up in the car. But after awhile driving with it, I got used to it and it doesnt bother me as much.

Yeah, I have solid motor mounts in my Nova, and it vibrates like hell, but when you have lots of torque, an OEM rubber mount would rip apart. Thats why most cars now a days have a locking mechanism built into the motor mount to keep the engine in place when the rubber/poly fails.

I think this is just normal dude, but I agree, you could probably loosen it a little, there shouldn't be much tension on the damper when the engine is off or idle.

For those who don't know, engine dampners and solid motor mounts help power and eficiency by keeping the motor from moving, so the momentum goes straight to the chassis instead of the mounts. Kinda like getting a stiffer suspension on your car.

The engine dampners should be adjustable, so if you want the best of both worlds, loosen it up a bit until you can live with the vibrations (the dampner, not the mounts)... just like a suspension. And plus, unlike solid motor mounts, most of the vibrations go away after driving the car around for a bit (either or you get used to it, not too sure which).

I was going to get the same thing. Is this a 5at prob or does it also affect 6mt cars? Which damper is it, Stillen?

This is the Top Speed dampener and I have 5at.

Just came back from the outside... trying loosening, didn't help. Tightened it.. didn't help. I dunno wtf to do. Honestly, it's not a small vibration, it's definetly abnormal. I don't get bothered by little things, for example I like my Stillen exhaust drone. But this shyt, it's sooo annoying.
