Stillen Sedan Exhaust

Re: Stillen Sedan Exhaust
Question about the LSD on the sedan. I was just in for service and asked what it would cost to install the LSD on my '03.5 Sedan 6MT (manufactured Dec02 to be exact). They said according to the parts system and using my VIN number, I already have the LSD. Still don't believe it though, and am going to do more research.

Unless you have a 04 6mt sedan you don't have LSD. And with you build date being the same as mine, your service departments vin search is 100% wrong. Let me say one thing about the idea to swap in a stock viscious limited slip,.......DON'T DO IT!, the math doesn't work, I did the swap, and I was lucky enough to have stumbled on a brand new (less than 15miles) viscious limited slip unit for $100. It's all the other parts you have to add, $300 for new stub axles and $100 for LSD bearings and seals. The stock viscious unit sells for $600 at the Nissan parts counter. The reason I say DON'T DO a stock limited slip swap is because you can buy the Nismo limited slip for $900 at Performance Nissan and it come's will all the parts you need and being a clutch type LSD, it's far superior to the viscious unit. And it will cost the same to install, $400. Here's a price break down recap.
$100 for viscious limited slip (good luck finding one at this $)
$300 new stub axles since you can't use the one's you have now.
$100 for LSD bearings and seals
Total $500+ the $400 install ='s $900
For only $400 more than I paid for the viscious unit and the required parts, you can get the Nismo LSD and get all the parts you need inside the box and a vastly more effective limited slip unit in the process.

Re: Stillen Sedan Exhaust
DaveO and Gurgenpb...I didn't quite catch if the car dynoed was an AT or an MT, but if it was an MT...a good multiplier for fly wheel HP/TQ is 1.25 and that would give that G35 that Stillen dynoed about 252 TQ and 253 HP...not quite 260, but not a 99 Mustang Cobra lawsuit deal either. If I misread what you guys were talking about I apologize.
Also, the G35, as I have stated regarding AT versions, has some severe ECU controlled Power Retardation at launch...hence the Hanis 60' times us Auto Tragic Guys have to deal with...the rush of power you guys are talking about is the ECU letting the damn engine finally wake up once initial traction has been established as far as I know...if this car hooked up and could be feathered off the line like the 6MTs I would be running 14.3s at the Drag Strip at 97 mph without a doubt.
I even installed a toggle switch with a friend to disable the brakes/VDC...and I still hit some kind of rev limiter BS at launch....aghhhhh I hate that.
Other than that This Car Rocks!

Re: Stillen Sedan Exhaust
So, DaveO if Stillen telling you you'd gain 19-20WHP from stock (according to your DYNO) due to exhaust its BULL****
It seems that despite the fact dyno shows STD Horsepower numbers its more close to SAE which is correct thing to do. For all of you who've done or going to DYNO all numbers should be SAE . However, 203 whp stock is little low and should be around 211-218 instead.
Here is the DYNO of stock G35 auto sedan with SAE numbers.

Re: Stillen Sedan Exhaust
AV6,
First thing. It's not my dyno. Second, Stillen didn't tell me anything. I the took and posted the system and dyno pictures. I asked questions about the tremendous improvements over baseline. I pointed out the unusually low AT Sedan baseline numbers. And I didn't call them liars.
All vendors, including Stillen, use their very best dyno results for marketing purposes. Sport Z Magazine Exhaust Shootout proved the point. None of the systems were close to their advertised horsepower and torque ratings.
For those who missed it - Check out the Strickly Z website. Here's what they say...
"STILLEN'S hot new exhaust for the 350Z is the result of months of development and testing. Made of 100% stainless steel, the system features a lifetime warrantee. It makes the most power of any 350Z system on the market and fits like a glove."
They should know. Yuichi wrote the excellent Sport Z Magazine Exhaust Shootout article.
For now, I think I'll wait for the system to be released and dynoed on other cars before saying the results are bull. I don't like to call people liars... some will take offense.

Re: Stillen Sedan Exhaust
after thinking about it, i dont think 20 hp gains are so incredible. think about it. the coupe makes 20 more hp than a sedan already...most have speculated that it is due to a better exhaust system that isnt even a true dual yet. for a sedan to get a true dual system, it should be gettting beyond 20 hp gains. even in the territory of 25-30. Plus the sound of a real exhaust as well.

Re: Stillen Sedan Exhaust
nuttyprof: don't forget that the coupe is also tuned differently than the sedan. That also plays a part in the power numbers. I don't think the sedan's stock catback system is so restrictive that it chokes 20+hp. I'm sure a good true dual catback will give the sedan some gain, just not sure about the 20+ hp figures. But until somebody dynos a stock sedan with and without the Stillen catback on the same day we won't know.

Re: Stillen Sedan Exhaust
The latest word on pricing and availability.
Price: $964.00 - Availability: Mid December (I hope!)
My thoughts on the cost.
1 - A well made custom aluminized system can cost between $500 and $600 + using Magnaflow components. The system would not be dyno proven or have mandrel bends and the possibly of being too loud or droning below 3000 rpm is high.
2 - A Fujitsubo or Nismo Y-pipe will run around $500.00 or so. A Coupe midpipe cost about $200.00, a resonator changeout $80.00 to $100.00. A HKS Dual Tip Muffler will run $450.00. (Estimated prices include tax/shipping.) Total cost uninstalled $1000.00 +. This would be for a single pipe system that's not dyno proven and the potential for sound problems (droning) from idle to 3000 rpm would still exist.
After seriously considering both these options, I don't think Stillen's system is that expensive. Of course my checkbook won't like it. Oh well, a Christmas present to myself.
