What happened to the Q45?

There is no Q45 for the 2007 model year. Why? Was it not competitive enough with the competition? Was the M45 too competitive with it? Any ideas, or even facts?

I'm just curious-I'm not in the market for something in that price range. In fact, I'm not in the market for anything right now!

Thanks,

Andy

Didn't know about that.

I would guess that the sales were just too low to keep it around.

They're releasing a new Q soon, I believe they're going to have the Q Concept at NAIAS in Detroit.

I think you got it right, for the money it didn't compete well. It was probably due for a model change and Infiniti felt it could better spend the money on the GTR.

Yeah. I always thought the Q needed a MAJOR redesign. The interior was great but the outside just didn't have that "baller" status of an S or 7 series.

I hope it's as nice as the new Lexus LS.

During my last visit to the dealer, one of the Infiniti sales guys said the Q was “pulled off the shelf” for 2007 for a re-design.

If you poke around NissanNews.com, you’ll see the corporate Q45 sales stats that indicate a 65% dropoff in sales from 2005 to 2006. Also significant is that they never sold more than 140 in any month of 2005 and sold (as an example) seven units in Dec 2006. Badness.

Lexus has really set a high bar for a redesign—8 speed tranny, 380HP / 367 ft-lbs. among many highlights. But, while clearly impressed with such a tremendous sedan, most of the reviewers still use adjectives like “numb, detached, etc.”

And that’s where Infiniti has managed to separate themselves from Lexus—Infiniti says “hey, drive this” and Lexus says “why don’t you let us drive?” with the entire array of stability/traction control tech that drivers can not control.

The Q’s V8 is already close @ 340HP / 333 ft-lbs torque At this point, all of the luxury marques use a 6 speed or better transmission, so I’m sure Infiniti is working on this. So, the new Q should be interesting.

Another thing; I asked why there were no M45s in the showroom and the Infiniti sales dude plainly stated that, in the Northeast, they push the M35X, G35x AWD vehicles almost to the exclusion of the rear wheel drive M45.

Why isn't there a Q45 for 2007?

Simple Answer - there are enough unsold 2004, 2005, and 2006 Q45's to last another 10 years. Nobody wants them. I think Infiniti should give up on the Q for awhile and have the M hold the fort. Use the R&D money on the new G37 Coupe convertible, GT-R, new CX and FX. Oh yeah, how about a G25 for a change?

The convertible sounds nice!

Thanks to all for your thoughts and information. Any more would be welcome also.
