Extended warranty question

I have a 2004 G35 with 44,000 miles. Called a dealer today for a quote on extended warranty, and was quoted $2245 for 4years/48,000 miles bumper-to-bumper, so that would take me to 2011 or 92,000 miles? Good deal or not? Also, if anyone has gone with non-dealer aftermarket warranties, any recommendations? Thanks!

I have not seen the G35 extended warranty, but in general, you need to be very cautious with these. Be sure it actually covers the major problems that could go wrong without a lot of dealer wiggle room. Be sure that if it requires routine maintenance having been done that you can prove (with receipts) that you have done ALL of the required services. Check the deductible too. Good luck.

Did you get that through the dealer, when you purchased the car, or aftermarket?

having worked for nissan for 13 years i've seen a lot of warranty work. all aftermarket warranties suck *** and not worth the paper its printed on, they will try anything to weasle out of paying. not the case with nissans extended warranty unless your local dealer is an ***. proving that you maintain your car is your end of the agreement if you want nissan to hold up to their end. nissan is a paying customer to the dealer as well as you. whats fair is fair. the price you were quoted is way too high in my opinion. thats probably double, if not more, than the dealer pays for it. depending on the level of coverage, cost is about $600-$1200. haggle with them and dont hesitate to walk out. after all, making $100 on a sale is better than making nothing at all. good luck.

There are so many mixed claims about aftermarket warranties. Some say they are not worth a crap (magazines that is) and others say it may be worth it. But just like insurance most have a deductible so watch out for that. It may be worth the peac e of mind to you. 2K + is too much either way

I wish someone made one that would cover just the small stuff like interior, window motors, crap like that which I have not done enough mods to void.

that's waaaaay too high

i paid just a tad over 1K for the infiniti 3 yr after my warranty expired. my low mileage helped w/ the pricing, but you need to shop around. all dealers have the same infiniti extended warrany, most will quote you different pricing. some will give you a deal in hopes that you bring the car back to them for the work since they get paid for that anyway, others will quote you the retail price.

take a look thru the brochure, there's alot of things that were covered by the original warranty that aren't covered by the extended warranty. also TSBs aren't covered outside warranty, as well as loaners and roadside assitance. the one advantage that the infiniti warranty has over aftermarket is the trip interuption. something about them taking care of you if you are on a trip and you're car breaks down, sorta like AAA

I would not have purchased mine after i got the car, it's not a big deal when it's included in the payments for the car. They want to sell you that warranty as soon as you decide to buy it, so they tend to lower the price than what's suggested.

Thanks for all the productive responses. I'll shop around the different dealers here. I may just go with Infiniti's for the peace of mind. Will definitely talk down the price. I was told by the first dealer that the pricing structure changes at 50,000miles, so I'll wait a few months to decide (and also gives me more time on the extended warranty should I decide to buy).
