Custom LED Dual Color Clear Corners

So I was bored and decided to work on this nerve wrecking project. Basically a LED side marker with option to switch from Amber to White to Both. I just finished one side, I will be doing the other one next week. Took me about a good full day. Hopefully the next one will take much less time.

about 4 hours of soldering and wire cutting and right there.

approaching the end of this one.

there wasn't enough clearance for the 4 LED's in the front, so I had to castrate them.

the "switches" (cheap *** radioshack switches were flimsy. I need to find better ones to make a replacement)

Thats both Amber and White, its bright as hell and from a distance looks like "soft white".

The white LED's were so bright, my camera went nuts in the dark, I'll get more pics later.

edit: silicon smells like ****, jezuz christ I almost passed out when I was glueing it back together

Very nice work! I bet those will be bright as hell!
Are you going to make more and sell them or was this just for you?

LED's don't give off heat. The resistors and misc stuff may give off a little.

Where are you going to locate the switch? Inside the cabin or will you have to pull out the sidemarkers everytime you want to switch the lighting set-up?

The switchs will be located where the old bulb used to be, as shown in the picture. So, yes you would have to pull them out. It wouldn't be too much more work to wire them into the cabin somewhere.

Like mentioned already, the LED's dont get very hot, the resistors and the voltage regulator might get a little warm, but it shouldn't be too much.

I didn't think many people would be intersted. But if you guys are really interested you could get a list going. I could consider getting a custom PC board printed for this, which would cut the time to a fraction of what it took me. The price of the complete product including the clear corners would be around $250 for a pair. Some of you might be more interested in a single color LED set, which would cost less. Give me your thoughts and maybe I can work something out.

($250 is a rough estimate, I'll have to find out how much the custom pc boards cost before I can give any solid figures.)

Thanks for all the input!

Thumbs up

Great job on putting together that LED board for your clear corners. I'm sure you'll turn plenty of heads around at night with those on. I think that you might have stumbled onto a great business idea as well! Good luck with your possible million dollar idea!
