While I haven't been on the forum as long as you , I have owned my G since it was new in 11/03. I always have had manuals and do enjoy the 6MT to this day. My first impression actually was I loved that the stick vibrated ..reminded me of my 67 Mustang ..in my mind made the car feel more performance based than luxury. However, based in part by my experience and various threads written here, I find it hard to believe there are so many failures of this transmission. I certainly understand that some of us drive alittle more agressive than others but still...I have never had a manual transmission that needed to be replaced/repaired before 60,000 miles of use. Clutches, yes Transmission, no. Again, I have had foreign and domestic cars with sticks.
I drove two 07s when I was in the dealership for service this week(when they agreed to replace my tranny) one a stick and one an auto. Both Sport models. While the clutch was better in the 07..didn't think that the shifter was any improvement on my 04. I thought that the manual function of the shifter/paddles did a nice job of giving the driver control.
I still love driving my 6MT, just don't think I am going to get another one when I trade the 04 in.
Bottom line is I do not think that trading a 05 in on a 07 6MT will get you much other than a nicer interior and a bigger car loan.

Doesn't make sense to me to want to sell you car because you don't like the transmission or clutch. Are they any different than when you bought it 15K miles ago?

You'll take a big hit for the depreciation of you '05 and then also take on a larger auto loan...definitely not worth it, unless of course, money is no issue to you.

get an upgraded clutch kit that has a softer feel but better clamping force, change the fluid to royal purple(trust me) and that should make night & day difference. Don't trade your car, it's not worth it for an '07. Maybe if it came with a 3.7 then I might think twice.

I never said 330, I said BMW.

Reviews of the tranny are mixed regardless, and I'm very familiar with the tranny woes on the G. Having a rubber feel vice a clutch that doesn't last or sticks to the floor and gears that often grind, break and have to be replaced may be a good trade off for a longer throw or rubbery feel.

A 328 starts at $32,500, and if I'm not mistaken it's 'rated' at 6.5 0-60 and high 14s on the auto - not as fast as a current G Sedan, but certainly in the same ball park. These aren't race cars to begin with (although many here think differently).

he asked for an alternative, I provided one. If you knew my post history, you'd know that there wasn't a BWM out there that I would even consider owning based on price for performance - until the new 335TT. Having said that, a friend has a base 335 in the parking lot that he barely paid $40K for. Go figure.

Good post G.Williker I still hate bmw, but you are right with what you say. I will still never drive anything but my g for the next few years unless something really impresses me. I can deal with the tranny, because when you drive G35 like its suppose to, its the most freakin amazing car ever (for 40grand), shift around 5000 rpm every time and its roars to life and simply does what its suppose, hauls *** (sorry for the run on). The engine really does purr nicely, its almost like my 86 300zx, gets loud and roars, and when you shift slowly, the engine slowly growls down in rpms....just a great car... can't imagine driving any other car unless its a 120k turbo porsche with a 6 speed or something more expensive.

I have an 05 and will wait....in two years they will do a refresh to the 07 and will probably add around 10-20hp. I plan on keeping my 05 for at least 5 years.

Thanks for all ur inputs

Agree that its a great car and fun to drive and thats why i bought it but the point i am trying to make is that the tranmission and clutch sucks, its not refined as with other cars like Honda.

If u drive a Honda MT you will understand what i am talking about. Try driving a S2K and u will be amazed how the clutch and transmission behaves.

That is a negative feature of this car and being a MT i would have liked it to be better

Don't trade to 07, you'll lose enough money tha's good for a S/C., instaed, use the money to get a super charger for your 05.

Thta's leave 07 or BMW 335i in dust.

I've actually remembered reading that the new shifter in the 07 is 'slick' shifting. That's hardly how what I would describe my 06 shifter. I love my 6MT but, I really don't like the vibrations in the shifter, nor do I like the rubbery shift feel. Even though the opposite has been said about BMW, I could never justify the 10k premium for a 3 series. My 06 has 10k on it (only driven on weekends) .

I, too, am seriously considering an upgrade to an 07. If I make the move, it will be after bonuses are doled out .

IMHO, I think that 306 hp is good for now. This would be a car that I would hold for a long time. If I ever feel the need for more hp/torque, I'm quite sure the forced-induction options (at that point in time) will widen for the new VQ engine.

why do all you people love car payments so much. Just pay the thing off and have fun for it for at least 5 years. These japanese cars can go forever but people trade them in too quickly. The BMW has the best manual transmission for the money period i'm sorry to say. True they are way too expensive, i haven't seen a 335i for under 40k in the orange county area. seeing how u can wait and get the new g for about 30, i don't think the bmw is worth it. Plus if any of you have owned a bimmer, which I have one now, you all know they love to fall apart really quickly after the 50k mark. they are notorious for that. Japanese quality is still superior. just pay your car off man, you're throwing money out the window trading it in

And guys i'm ashamed of you all getting the 07, remember the first year a model is upgraded there are significantly more problems that first year

just my $.02

basus,
find yourself a good shop and get an aftermarket clutch set up, there is no reason to trade in the car as Nissan has not been terribly well known for their MT and I doubt the 07 is much of an improvement if it is bothering you now it probably will in the future even with a new car.
