most dealers should inspect your brakes for free... regardless of warranty status.

Why do they squeal so loud at 20,000 miles?

I've always had very LITTLE brake dust on my rims... so little it make me think my brake wear is minimal. havent checked the remaining pad though will do it tonight (2005 coupe auto).

the squeal is prob the wear indicator... depending on your driving, a manufacuturing problem , or just normal wear your brakes are worn... that is if your positive the squeal is comming from the brakes.

let us know how you make out and how much they are quoting !

Mine squeak in reverse when they're cold. They're not worn - it's a common problem. If yours are only sqeaking in reverse (like mine) then I wouldn't sweat it too much. I visually inspect my own brakes and have had no issues with premature brake wear on my 05.

Mine squeak in reverse as well, also an 05. I'm not worried cause it comes and goes.

i *think* the brakes waranty expires at 18,000 miles. I had my replaced under waranty at 17,800. The rotors were already at their minimum. I NEVER ride the brake and use my autostick to downshift exiting the highway. The brakes are just too soft.

It makes the squealing sound like when i am stoping at a red light. It will do it at slow speeds.

You're hard on brakes. I have an 05 with 14,000 miles and have plenty of life left in the pads, much less the rotors... I doubt I've burned even half the life out of 'em.

That could be a wear indicator. Is it consistent?
