My first $3200 "mod"

So I've owned my 2003 G35 for the past 2 months and on Sunday my speedometer stopped working, and my ABS and VDC lights were lit up. So I took it into the shop today.

After a day of work, I got picked up by a courtesy driver from the Infiniti dealership here in town, and when I got to the dealership, they told me I would need a new $3200 traction control unit.

I don't know if it would have been covered under warranty, but it doesn't matter because it expired in October of 2006.

GROWL. Anyone else have this problem? I can only assume that my car eventually hated being driven in -30 degree weather.

Heh, I drove it to work and back on Monday because I couldn't get an appointment until this morning. It drives just fine...but Infiniti won't let me drive my car away because they say it's unsafe without the speedometer, ABS, VDC, TCS, and they said that the transmission control will be shifting at different points as well....but really, isn't that what having the manu-matic mode is for?

I was told VDC is not the same as TCS? I have VDC on my car but no TCS?

VDC is not traction control. VDC is stability control. Your SLIP light is the traction control part of things.

Not like the sports suspension.

All the G's have VDC and TCS and ABS.

That sucks about the TCS. I have never heard of that before. Too bad you can't get the parts from Tony or Jason at Riverside and DIY. I bet it would be 75% less.

Same thing happened to me. Was driving around and the speedometer stopped working, vdc light, slip light and brake light came on. I could still drive though.

I just ended up unplugging the battery over night and the next day it was fine.

So in the 06 what determines the sport?

Yeah that's pretty much what I'm telling him to do, but I never had much luck at the whole gas pedal method of resetting the ecu so I ended up just unplugging the battery over night and that cleared it all.

^^ first time I tried with the pedals.. didn't work after 2-3 tries. Did the battery method.

But after I got my reflash, the check engine light came on and I decided to give the pedal method another try. did it on the 3rd try! Felt sooo good lollll

Resetting the ECU? Hm....that might be difficult as the dealership won't give me back my car. They called me at work and told me I could come pick up my car. So they picked me up at work (about 3 hours before I had planned on finishing my day), dropped me off at the dealership, and then the service advisor apologized because he didn't talk to the tech earlier, and then told me I couldn't drive my car anywhere. So they drove me home. They asked if I wanted them to check out the rental car prices for me, and didn't bother asking me if I wanted a courtesy car since I look like I'm freakin' 14.

Oh that sucks. Can they prevent you from taking your car, or have you already agreed to have them service it?
