03 350Z mid-pipe on 05 sedan?

I have an 03 350Z mid-pipe sitting in my garage off of my 350Z. I know that with a 6" extension, it will fit my sedan.

I have read that the 05+ sedan exhaust is already quite good, but I notice there is a big mid-pipe muffler vs the small muffler on the 350Z.

Are they the same internal diameter? If so, I understand the performance gains will be minimal or completely non-existant, but I'll lose a few pounds and change the exhaust tone. Currently, the only thing on the car is the HKS rear pipe/muffler.

Thanks--

save your money. The sound will be slightly (and I mean SLIGHTLY) deeper that you won't really notice the difference. One thing you'll get for sure is the the annoying drone, plus you'll hit the cross brace between the drive shaft and the midpipe (unless you modify it). You will also lose back pressure for sure.

I ran a 350z midpipe with extension on my 05 6MT sedan for about 9 months. I did notice a deeper tone, and a little more fuel-burn pop when decelerating. And drone was *marginally* increased. But every one has his own opinion on drone.

I never measured the ID of the exhaust components, but I didn't have any problems getting everything lined up. If you've got it just sitting in your garage, I say go for it.

Ours just bolted right up. No issues with hitting anything, etc. It took no time at all to bolt up and if you have one I would say give it a shot. If you don't like it, you can always go back and you haven't really lost much of anything.

Thanks - I think I'll get the extension pipe and give it a shot. It can't hurt.

I also have the Y-Pipe. Any difference? Maybe I should just get under my car and check! Hey I am at work.

What about the muffler? Just kidding!

One of the main differences will be weight reduction... I dont know the exact amount but getting rid of that huge resonator helps...

I would just wait till you get your hands on a G35 coupe mid-pipe and not mess with the extension...

That would be true on the '03-'04 sedan but not so much on the '05. There is really little difference in the resonator from the '05 sedan and the coupe. If you want the same amount of difference the sedan guys were getting from the coupe midpipe then you are going to need to go to the 350 pipe. If you have an '05 I wouldn't bother with the coupe midpipe and adding the extension would likely cost about the same as his purchasing a coupe midpipe.
