transmission drain and refill with valvoline?

i just had the local nissan dealer do some fluid changes at 30K and noticed on the work order, that it listed valvoline as the trans fluid brand....

is this gonna screw up the car? i thought the owner's manual says nissan J matic fluid only, or you can void your warranty, if the transmission gets f*ucked up. why would it say valvoline?

should i be concerned?

I heard that any other fluid in the transmission would void the warranty...they said it should only use the oem nissan fluid. I would actually be a little concerned just keep your reciept in the car incase anything goes wrong.

It depends on what the spec of the J-Matic is vs the Valvoline. If it's the same spec, then it should be fine. But finding the right spec of the Nissan stuff is the hard part

i called the dealer and they said that's what they use. apparently valvoline has a fluid that meets the specs of several of the vehicles that require D, J, or K matic fluid.

i confirmed it on a valvoline data sheet from valvoline. hell, if a nissan dealer installed it into a nissan trans, they should know what they can and can't use. and if the trans goes south.....i have a receipt and i'll be back at the dealer with it in hand......

thanks for the replies.

Does anyone know if our transmission have a transmission filter in them...and what size it is?

I'd still call Nissan North America to confirm first.---- 800 662 6200.

this is great news for AT owners... before the only fluid that met the spec was nissan's oem fluid, but now we can use Amsoil's synthetic ATF

I only see Nissan D-Matic on this chart http://www.amsoil.com/products/trans...fluid_rec.aspx

Where is the J-Matic fluid?

I think you're looking at only the top half of the page:

NISSAN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS

Nissan Matic D
ATF, ATD

i would just show your dealer the booklet and tell them that you want nothing but nissan's oil. Trust me, I had the problem with the damn fluid before.
