Not flaming here at all and 3.5 you are a good man so work with me on this. The drivers race argument...If I am a crappy driver dont I want the better car that will mask my weaknesses so that I might TIE a drag race (on a track) with a slightly weaker motor than in my car? i.e Only the best driver beats an average driver in a stronger car, get the stronger car since my skills are fixed in a point in time.

Yeah - there's not a point in comparing the WWD to the G for purposes of turning.

 

based on purely statis tical arguments, the alitma is rated lower than the G, if by the greatest drivers of the 3.5 altima are acutally pulling off mid 14.4s then how come no one on tehse boards even post similar numbers. the probability that at least one person on this board is a compentent driver is high but yet no one here has claimed low 14s or even 13s. thanks again for coming and if u have proof to your 14.4 scan ur slip in and post it, even tho we cna fully take the word of it but its still a a step in the right direction to prove your altima with minal mods can make such claimed numbers

No, I don't doubt one bit that the G is a better car, that is why I bought one and lost thousands on my trade (2k2 altima V6). I merely want you to understand that this VQ35DE is alot closer in each application than you think. And with less than 1000.00 in bolton mods, you will be seeing the taillights of an auto or 5 spd altima. So don't get cocky, learn to drive this awesome piece of engineering that we love so much and eliminate that driver element in a driver's race.

Remember we got more crank horses but they got less weight and less drivetrain loss and also remember that even 40 horses is not all that much difference with Nissan's wonderfully exact rating system.

There have been a few timeslips posted on the net of Altimas running high 13's stock.

Back when I had a maxima for about a year it was common knowledge that a MT Altima with a good driver could run low low 14's all day long.

Sorry to burst all you people who think the G35 is the biggest baddest fastest thing out there, but the Altima is faster in a straight line than the g35 Sedan. Some dyno tests on the Altimas have even revealed Nissan UNDER RATED their HP maybe to go along with the fact the Maxima (255 HP for 5th gens) was its top of the line car with the Altima in a close second.

 

and really, who the hell cares. So what if the Altima, an ugly looking cheap plastic looking inside and out (the dash is so hideous it makes baby jebus cry) family-little bit sport sedan is .2 seconds faster in the quarter mile.

The G35 has it on looks, style, class, interior/exterior, and handling and countless other things. Did you know a modded Civic CRX that cost less than a g35 can SMOKE a g35 in the qrtr mile?? get over it, there are other cars faster than the G. But there are ZERO cars like the G.

a couple guys claimed to hit 14.1 with a airbox mod only, but no slips

14.3 manual with no mods (minor airbox cutting only)

No slips only reported claims of everywhere from 14.67 to 15.2 for stock automatic V6 atlimas. I saw a thread over on altimas.net showing a 14.4 AT time but again no slip.

I will try to digup my old timeslips. My 14.4 was in my G35 6MT which I am happy to say stock was faster than my altima with 1000.00 in mods but only by 0.1 seconds. automatic altimas can put down 15.0 every time with the shifter in D and no powerbraking. That is about what the G can do, no? 14.8 at sea level is the average we have seen for an auto 3.5 altima. Guess what? Nobody is average, everyone is worse or better

It's not ugly or cheap. It's a family sedan with a good motor, just like the new Accord. It goes pretty quick. There's no denying that. So what?

I didn't buy my G35 because it's the fastest thing out there, I bought it because it's a sports sedan, handles well, has plenty of power, and can carry the kids and their stuff around. The G35 goes up against the 330i and the CTS.

If you don't care about handling and weight balance and a well-rounded sport sedan package, then the G35 is not the best car for you. It falls short in the luxuries dept. compared to several other less sporty cars but just-as-quick-in-a-straight-line cars.

IMO, you really shouldn't be comparing an Altima vs.G35. Altima vs Accord vs Camry I can see. G35 vs IS300 vs TL is comparable. But Cloth vs leather? heated seats vs no butt warmers? Being able to have a cell phone conversation while on a windy, winding road cruising at 95mph...PRICELESS

Have you ever been inside a Altima?

The entire dash is that ugly dark willow color, its that crappy rubberish-plastic all across the dash except for one little spot near the radio which has cheesy titanium trim. The interior is as bad/worse than some of Ford's finest abominations.

If Nissan had say put the style of the maxima into the Altima, it would be doing a lot better. But it's a barebones car.
