"Gravelly" sound coming from shifter

Hey, just started noticing a "gravelly" sound coming from near the shifter on my '03.5 6MT. It sounds like something is loose, because it will only happen when revving (you can hear it better in neutral because it revs faster), and will stop if I press down on the **** (like I'm going to go into reverse) and then rev. Is this likely just something loose due to the known vibrations the manual trannys have, or is it possibly a tranny problem starting up?

How old is your clutch and flywheel? TOB could be about gone.
