Still leftover 06's on the lot, trying to get a deal

I was surprised to find that my local dealer still had two leftover '06 G35x sedans with Premium package. I love the '07 and I was going to wait until the end of this year to try to get one at or near invoice. But I'd rather get an 06 IF I can get a great deal on it.
I'm frustrated because these guys just aren't willing to deal much. After a long conversation, the best they would do is one thousand under invoice. I have a problem with this because this is not just last year's car, but the 07 is a redesign and I think an improvement in just about every area. In fact one of the leftovers had about one thousand miles on it (it was a demo and used for test drives and such). I couldn't' get him to budge, I kept saying that he was looking at LAST year's invoice, and with the '07 out for several months at close to the same price, that moves the '06 down in pricing from my view. I tried to argue the point that the cars were "slightly used" but he fought that one, insisting they were considered "new". I threw a few other points out, like one had a very minor scratch on the bumper, maybe a scuff here and there (only looked at one that close).

So anyway am I wasting my time, or do you guys think I can snag one at thousands below invoice? I mean if there is a time to do it, it is now cause these are popular cars and don't normally get discounted that much from what I can see. The invoice was 34K and change, so he wanted 33K, I low-balled him at 27 and he laughed (yeah that was low but I wanted it at under 30).

I'm gonna keep trying but I wanted to get the opinions on here as to what was a realistic number. If I can't score it at 28 or 29, well I'd rather an 07 at invoice when the 08's come.

Hmm. I thought Infiniti had a $3000 factory incentive program to get rid of 06s. I got my '06 Sedan with premium B and sports pack in last Dec more than 6K off MSRP (translates to 3k off invoice). You should be able to get a similar deal but 27k-28k maybe too low...unless you're going for "used" ones.

Thanks a lot, this helps. I am going to wait until the end of the month, and call him again.
I think what I am going to ask for is this:
For the 06 G35x - $29500 all in (including dest.). My reason behind this is the fact that they have had it for close to a year now, it's been driven around, has minor scuffs/scratches that will probably buff out, basically they got their use out of it, I won't pay them for the time they used it. Plus I know about the rebate he wanted to keep for himself. 07s have been around a while, and in fact the 08 coupes are coming next, so he should want to move it.
My trade is an 03 Acura TL-S with 49000 miles. Beautiful, but was repaired after an accident. NADA and Kelley blue book say it's trade value over $15000. The low-ball Galves book has it at $13800. I'll let him have it for $14000.

We'll see what happens, but I'll tell him this is it. If not, whenever I get the G, it won't be purchased there.

How does this look?

Their aren't any other infiniti dealers near you?
When I was looking I searched a few hundred miles away. At a dealership about 75 miles away I got 6k off msrp (End of Sep 06). The dealership in San Diego wouldn't budge either, so I went elsewhere and I'm glad I did.

Thanks, in fact that's what I just told them, 29K for theirs, 14K for mine.
I called up another dealer (although he was almost 2 hours away), and he was close to 30 but still a little higher, and he low-balled me on the trade (he said 10K!!!). But I didn't tell the first dealer that, I just said I got a guy who will give me my price, but he's far away, so if they could match it I'll go with them, otherwise sorry I won't be working with your dealership anymore. He was going to give me a call today but I haven't heard yet.

Picked up an 06 Premium C IP/Stone for 29.25K in Januray, you just need to work them a little bit. I played 3 local dealerships against each other and finally went with the lowest price.

Local dealer here has a few 06 g35x is agressively publishing 6k off .... 1k over incoice is a rip off.... dont fall for that. Folks are getting 3k off of 07 already.... you might want to think it over.
