The stock tires (Turanzas) aren't even good ijn the rain. They are really really poor.

What kind of driving do you people do? I have never had a tire that was bad in the rain, save for an almost bald one!

Re: First Winter in G35!!!!

At least my Blizzak's will be here in a week... what bothers me is I read some g35 forums before I bought my car in July, and people were bitching about the all seasons from the 2002-2003 winter. Then I tell this to the dealer before I bought the car, and he said I'd have no problems with the all seasons in the snow... what a dick... wish I had mine delivered with the summers if I knew I'd have to buy winters anyway.

Re: First Winter in G35!!!!

Tires are a huge issue. Even our G35X, while handling the snow yesterday with no problems whatsoever, seemed like it could definitely use snow tires. The standard Goodyear Eagle RS-As are only so-so for snow traction. Since our car is brand new and the tires have full tread, we'll get by on them this winter. Next year, we go with the Bizzacks.

Be careful. even with AWD, you still can't stop or steer very well. Remember how many 4WDs you see in the ditches every winter!

I still had 8/32 left on my RS-As and a local G-Y dealer gave me a really good price for them out-right. They re-sell them to ppl with Altimas and Maximas as replacements and since they are so expensive new, can ask a ridiculous amount for good condition used tires. I used the money towards my set of Pilot Sport A/S's. Best thing I ever did. Your AWD G would do a whole lot better on same, beieve me! Since yours are new, there is a good chance of unloading the RS-As for a reasonable return.

Re: First Winter in G35!!!!

First snow drive was yesterday... I've driven other RWD cars in the snow the G35 was better... must be the weight balance or the tires. My slip light came on quite a few times but I made it to the grocery store and back twice during the day... going up/down some pretty steep hills including my driveway ... but I had snowblown it before I had left.

Oh man I am not looking forward to going out there today the snow is so deep

i had a HORRIBLE time in the snow. but my VDC is always off cause it's not working right now.. anyways.. my car was slipping and sliding everywhere even with 1/4 inch of snow on the ground.. i had to put my car in 1st - 3rd gears to get around but even with that.. it was shaky .. i need to get my damn VDC fixed just in case

ABQ_G35:

"Bad in the rain" I suppose is relative to how you drive. Most tires are just fine if you're just driving around carefully. However, they do have different levels of grip on wet roads. Good rain tires let you drive fairly aggressively even in the rain.

Summer tires refer to tires that are designed primarily for maximum dry traction, at the cost of comfort, tread life, and all-weather ability. However, they generally do better in rain than all-season tires, as they're designed only for dry/wet, and don't worry about mud/snow traction -- at which they will most definately suck.

Winter tires refer to tires that have been designed to grip loose or packed snow. They provide much better traction in winter conditions than all-season tires, at the coast of dry-weather handling, comfort, and tread-life.

All-season tires try to be a jack-of-all-trades. They tend to be competent in most areas for daily driving, but dont excel at anything, except maybe comfort and/or tread life.
