There is an interesting thread in the coupe section about Mobil 1.

After reading a lot about oil and filters, my decision is to go with Amsoil 5W30 and Wix filters.

I was big on M1 until I found out they changed to a non-full synthetic formula a little bit back. Now I am going with either Amsoil or Motul.

If you are fi, consider Amsoil or maybe the German Castrol.

I still spend some time up in the cold this time of year so my next change is with the German Castrol and then I will be changing to Motul or Amsoil.

is 0W30 thick enough for boosted cars? I thought we should have 40 or even 50wt.

+1
Motul 8100 5w40 X-cess.

For those who recently went FI, an oil analysis is a good idea too.

How has the Motul been testing out?? Or are you guys just buying on brand name?

Honestly for 95% of you na guys, Mobil 1 is still fine. But if you can find a true synthetic for the same $, then more power to you. I don't have a particular worry about the performance but I do with the pricing!

I agree that most G's and cars for that matter will be fine as long as you change often enough. I am pushing my stock block to the limits so I want that extra margin of safety.

I get it from a local performance shop. I think I pay $36 for a 5 qt bottle. If you're pushing a lot of power, you may want to look into Motul 300v (not cheap) which is a racing oil. You may want to try the 8100 X-cess and then get an oil analysis and then decide if the 300v is more appropriate. The Motul line is a true "full synthetic" line.

For the oil filter I use the Mobil One M-110, which is the longer filter listed for the Maxima. I think I'm in the minority on the oil though, I use good old dino oil, 5W-30 Castrol GTX or Pennzoil. I change oil every 3 months/3,000 miles so I don't see the point to synthetic. Plus, the manual specifically says not to use synthetic oil. I'm assuming the Infiniti engineers know a thing or two about motor oil...
