I tried this with XM and the reception in canyons was crappy. I put it on the trunk and I have much better reception. I have the dead mouse (1" by 1") from Grubbs instead of the rat. Maybe it's XM v. Sirius or the smaller antenna

That is the same antenna that I have. So far I just get the occasional break in reception going under freeway overpasses as I did with my last car. I don't have any canyons here in Phoenix to experiment. I'll be in So Cal in a few weeks. I'll hit the canyon roads there.

Has anyone changed the dead rat for a FUNCTIONING shark fin or other finished looking/paintable antenna?

I looked at a couple other cars today and the fin is right by the window so I guess I will just leave it how it is....

I saw one on a new Benz (unsure what class) the other day and it was actually on the rear window. The area of the window was black, but I am sure it was on the window. Just looked at the MBZ website...it's on the C class sedan.
