Driver Seat Shift (problem)

My 2003 G35 Sedan has a slight shift front and back in the drivers seat. The dealer tells me this is normal and there is nothing they can do about it. They state it is a factory problem with the gears in the seat and replacing the it wont help beacuse a new seat will have the same problem. Does anyone have this same problem with their electronic drivers seat? Did you get it fixed? Thanks.

They could replace the rails but it will only be a temporary fix. I don't think Infiniti has a permanent fix for this even though they've know about it for close to a year and a half.

Have them replace the entire seat-lifter assembly (that is what they call it). I had the same problem and that was the only thing that worked. Don't listem to that BS that there is nothing that they can do. It is a saftey issue.

They replaced my chair rails..dont take no for an answer. Even if it fixes it for a year or so - they can do it 4 more times IMO.

How bad is it? Mine does it on occasion, but it is barely noticable. I have not deemed it important enough to have anyone mess around on and spend multiple service visits for a condition that maybe I notice once a week.

Same here, I get an occaisional "clunk" but not annoying, and I don't really feel anything, I agree with you, not worth messing with at this point anyway!

Re: Driver Seat Shift (problem)

From what I was told, the seat movement seems to occur mainly when the seat is in the extreme up and/or rear position.

If you move the seat down and/or up and the problem goes away, it's the seat-lifter. The service dept inadvertantly left the bad one in my trunk and I was able to take a look at it. There was a bushing that had become elongated. Perhaps the new ones are made from a different material. I know, I should have taken a picture of it before I returned it to the dealer.

Re: Driver Seat Shift (problem)

How bad varies. Mine was rather bad.. quite a bit of play, and everytime you hit the breaks more than lightly, you felt like you were being thrown forward an inch or so. Disconcerting every time it happened. Replacing the seat-lifter assembly fixed it. I just had it done a month ago, so no results yet on how permanent/temporary this is for me.

Now that would be grounds for taking it in! Hmmm, I hadn't noticed the seat lifter, I will check that and see if the clunk happens again!

Re: Driver Seat Shift (problem)

Mine has a very slight clicking noise and a barely noticable rocking. I'll probably ask them to fix it at my next service.

Re: Driver Seat Shift (problem)

Yep, Infiniti hasn't got this figured out yet. They first installed whatever part gets replaced as part of the TSB, checked the seat and decided that hadn't fixed it. So, they replaced the whole frame. That was about 5 months ago.

Guess what I'm doing on Friday? Taking it back in because the problem is back. We'll see what they do this time. Haven't tried fooling with height adjustments as some have suggested. I need to have the back portion of the seat all the way down (tall upper body) or I get too close to the ceiling, so have no options with height adjustment. Passenger seat is solid as a rock.
