*Getting a good LAUNCH!! 6MT.
Re: *Getting a good LAUNCH!! 6MT.
you get wider tires, that is how you get a good launch.
anyways, the best launch I have had a 2.18 60' was by launching at 2500 rpms and feathering the clutch while flooring it. quite a bit of wheel spin, no wheel hop, just head pushed back in the seat.

i have heard that you just rev it to a certain rpm, then drop your clutch quick. but i think thats bad...so i never do it. whats the best way to go anyways? come on you pro dragsters. share some wisdom. =)

feather it: means let it out a little at a time as you have traction. Get to the engagement point but don't go thru it. then hold the rpm (2500-3500 or so), you will have to apply more throttle gradually to keep rpm from dropping. As you are adding more throttle, let the clutch out (it is almost linear) more.
Once you can do that quickly, you can get the "thrown back in the seat" feeling.
It is tricky, I have 24000 miles on my MT and still can get a perfect launch at the strip only about 2/3 of the time. Where I live at 5000 ft altitude, this is totally different than where the strip is.
With wider tires you can do the same method at higher rpms.
The goal is to be able to do it at around 4000-4500 rpm (peak torque) but with the 215 tires that is all but impossible.
