Question New Owner: Brake warranty question

I just purchased a used 03 Sedan with 19kmls. I read on some of the posts that there is a brake warranty for 03/04 G35. Is it for 3yrs/36k ? I still have 4 months left on my original warranty. I have noticed that the brake pads are getting low. The rotors look good. Alot of brake dust too. Does the original warranty cover the pads? Thanks.

The special brake warranty applies to '03-'03.5-'04 G35 sedans with AT, which means the normal Nissan factory brakes and not the Brembos.

This special brake warranty is for 3 yrs/36,000 mi whichever comes first.

Covers all aspects of the braking system, specifically including wear items not normally covered by the factory B2B warranty such as worn out brake pads and warped or worn out rotors.

Visit the dealer for a brake look-see right before this special warranty runs out--If you have maintained a respectful and cordial relationship with your service dept., you might drive out with a full set of new pads and rotors at all four corners, all covered under the warranty.

After that, though, you are on your own for those wear items. Fortunately there are lots of quality aftermarket choices for both brake pads and rotors.

The bumper-to-bumper 4yr/60K warranty won't cover the brakes. The brakes are only covered by the 3yr/36K brake warranty. If yours is an 03, chances are the brake warranty is up.

Hey thanks for the info. Yes it seems that the warranty is up by 1 year then. I'll start looking around for aftermarket pads. Would that take care of the brake dust?

The warranty also covers the 6MT as long as it is not the Brembos. The sedan never came with the Brembo.

I would look into a set of Hawk HPS pads. They perform very well and have low dust.

Welcome, and enjoy your ride! Be proud of the brake dust! It shows that you have high performance brakes and gives you a feeling of superiority over the great unwashed masses, who might have clean rims!

Depending on what pads you get, they can definitely reduce the brake dust. My Stillen pads needs about 3-4 weeks to get as dust as my old OEM's would in 2-3 days.

I would recommend getting R1Concept premium rotors (slotted and cross drilled) and Hawk HPS pads. Thats the combo I'm using right now and it is great. No more squealing and not bad dusting. The initial bite on the hawks aren't great until the warm up after about five minutes of stop and go driving. After that, they are good. I am actually considering switching to some project mu pads.

I think it's a recall. I just had mine fixed for free.

It's not a recall it; just a special warranty for brakes (it stemmed from a class action suit - long story)... I've had mine done twice. Will do once more before 36K

Hey RXM,
I'm looking at your R1 Concept rotors and I'm amazed at how many "drill holes" there are.

Just wondering.....that many drill holes has to add up to (a) a lot of thermal mass being taken from the rotor (as compared to the stock unit) and (b) a lot of contact area being taken away.

As compared to the stock unit, theoretically a loss of thermal mass would mean larger swings in operating temperature (which might be good or bad, who knows?); and a loss of contact area would have to mean less friction per rotation which would have to means less braking power.

Any idea if any of that manifests itself in the real world?
