When I pulled the car into the garage last night, I entered at a weird angle and rubbed the wooden garage frame against my quarter panel. I got some paint rubbed on and a dent above the rear wheel. I was considering clay bar to pull off the paint and then visit a dent clinic to have them work on that. Any builds? This would be my first time using clay bar. What are the odds my paint is damaged?

i think you should try to buff to buff it out first, it looks like most of it will come off with some buffing.

Paint should come of fairly easy. I'd use warm water and towel, or some alcohol. You might have to wet send the paint to remove the deep scratches.

+1. I did the same thing years ago with my moms minivan. I used NuFinish once a year polish and after some rubbing, everything came out and you couldn't even tell. You have a dent in your panel, so you may have scratched your paint as well. But best advice is what neal said, no rubbing compound, especially one with abrasives in it.Originally Posted by Neal376

Ow, that hurt huh?
Rubbing compund well probably scrath (dull) your paint more than the accident.Take it to a pro or the dealer.A paintless dent Dr well fix the rest for $50 or less.
So, how many beers are to blame for that manouver?

lol. No beers were to blame. Just poor judgement. I am going to try clay bar tonight and see what it looks like underneath (would have done it yesterday, but had to have some drinks sat. night in mourning). If I have paint scratches, I will take it to a pro to get them polished out. After that, I hope a dent dr can fix the rest. The lip of the fender looks like it is pushed in.

Get Some Paint Thinner And It Will Wipe Right Off Don't Get Mineral Spirits After Wiping The Paint Off Put A Coat Of Wax On And You Willl Be Good
So I added some pics above after my work today. I spent a few hours total working on the car. I used clay bar on the light abrasions, and a light wiping of alcohol on the deep scratches. Then I cleaned it and used a NuFinish Scratch remover for the lighter scratches. What's left? Well the pics above show some deeper scratches and the main dent. After I take her to the dent clinic, I am thinking about taking the car to a detailer and having the whole car polished. Hopefully they should be able to remove those last few scratches. None of the them are horrible, I think just the clear is scratched.
Why do I bother to DIY???
Good job removing the paint. The tough part will be the dent...that is on a crease line and that can be problematic. I have a dent on the same 1/4 panel, but its at the bottom, right behind the rear wheel...its where the crease line runs across.
You probably need to get the entire panel repainted and blended. But good luck!
