looking at the two pictures of the the old and new clocks I can see how the larger hands are easier to read but, more importantly it looks as if the old clock runs a little slow compared to the new one. Sorry just a Vitamin T influenced observation.

The clock in the '05 is much better, easily read at night, guess Infiniti does listen to complaints!

Does my dealer have any brighter bulbs or a fix for this so that the clock is illuminated better? Or, if it's a DYI job...where can I get brighter bulbs?

You get an attaboy for utilizing the search function. Nice job.

oh wow, this explains a few things. a few months back, one of the lights in the clock went out (it has two lights). i had the dealer replace the light (free). a week later, the same light went out again, and 2 days later the other one went out. i took the car back to the dealer, and they replaced the lights - or so i thought. something looked different, but i couldn't put my finger on it. now looking at the comparo pics, i see that i now have the new clock design - i guess they put in the new clock! woowoowoo!!!

Certain Years?

Is the replacement for certain years? My 04 has been dim since day one. The dealer has said it was normal.

OK...the new fat-hands clock is really nifty and all...but, are there any brighter bulbs available to make the backlighting better?

Can't find an answer to that one...

Anybody?

Well, I had my aftermarket headunit pulled out so that I could hook up my RCA cables to it. After plugging it back in my clock works but it doesn't light up. Is it possible that the bulbs just finally gave up or that I could have damaged a wire. I have the 03.5 sedan 6mt and have never had a problem before but things are subject to failure. Are the lights in the clock LED's or standard bulbs? And has anyone had this type of light failure. I am hoping that there is a quick fix other than having to take this in to the dealership.

Any thoughts?

burnt bulb or broken wire (power or ground). You'll probably have to take the h/unit out again to find the fix. sorry.

I have gone back and forth with my friendly neighborhood Infiniti service advisor (who is great, by the way...) and he said that the dimness of the clock lighting is not fixable, at least by an Infiniti service bulletin, although he has had loads of complaints. He says that the bulbs are less than adequate, and burn out all the time . I even asked if there were any aftermarket bulbs that could be retrofit to perform better, and the answer was that the bulbs are custom made for Infiniti by a Japanese manufacturer...and those are the only ones that fit.

Glad my new clock has fat hands.

I don't know that it would be the ground or power wire because the clock is still working. Isn't it a small harness that hooks to the clock? If the wires were bad wouldn't the clock stop working as well?
