disconnecting battery

My wife forgot to put on the gas cap so the service engine light is on. I'm havign problems disconnecting the negative battery terminal... the bolt is a 10mm but it doesn't seem to move at all with my socket wrench... how long before the check engine light goes off by itself, also any tips on getting the bolt off?

took like a day or two I forgot. I'd just let it go off by itself

You can always take it over to any parts store and have them clear the code.

Try using a wrench. The socket you are using might not be deep emough (that's the only reason I can think of for your problem).

+1... use the box end of a 10mm combination wrench.
