Spring question...

My car is completely stock, with the "sport suspension package," which I think includes upgraded shocks, springs, LSD, and of course 18" wheels. I like how it handles and rides (appropriate for my wife's daily driver) but IMO it sits too high.

The question: Can I just add springs (say, H&Rs or Eibachs), or do I need to change out the shocks as well?

Thanks...

Iknow if you get unrevised Z springs no becasue they have the same spring rate as the sport supension. I have them on mine and I like them.

Get Z springs, unless you want it "slammed"

Very good -- I'm looking for a 1" drop and close to stock ride quality for this car. Do you have the factory sport shocks with your unrevised z springs? If so, how would you describe the ride compared to the factory G35 sport springs?

I searched and couldn't find many details on these "unrevised" 350Z springs -- except some people say they're bouncy. Is that your experience?

I'm asking here because over the years I've screwed up a couple cars with the wrong suspension set-up.

Samecraig, I also have a 05 sport G35 sedan with 350z unrevised springs in the front and coupe springs in the rear. With the Unrevised springs the ride will not be any more bumpy than what you feel now on your factory sport springs My eibach springs were bumper than my 350zG35coupe combo. Nissan changed out the 350z unrevised springs to revised (rear only) because 350z owners complained the springs were too bumpy thus the Revised springs from 2004 to current 2007

+1. I have the unrevised Z springs up front and Coupe springs in the rear. The 1" drop is perfect!

+2. I've had the same setup with the unrevised Z springs for the last year. Ride is exactly the same as stock sport suspension. Obvious benefits are slightly better turning (less body roll), besides the fact it will defintely change the look of your ride. 1" drop may be considered subtle, but IMO all G's should have came off the showroom floor like that stock.

Aftermarket springs are made for lowering and performance. They will not ride like stock. As far as springs go, the Z will give you a mild drop and good ride. The next in line would be Eibach, H&R or Tein which will lower it a bit more.

OK, this sounds like the right set-up for me. Unrevised 350Z springs in front, standard oem G35 coupe springs in the rear. Keep the "matching" sport shocks. Result: near sport suspension ride plus other benefits as noted of a 1" drop front and rear. Thanks to all for the first-hand information.

Question to those with this set-up: Have you had any oddball tire wear, e.g. inside edges?

I'll scrounge around, but I doubt I'll find this set-up used. Are these springs available in pairs from the dealer? Is there an online source for part numbers? There's a cool site listing all oem bmw part #s, with pictures. Anything like that for Infiniti?

Random note about aftermarket springs on Nissans: I put Eibach Pro Kit on a Maxima and the drop and ride were perfect. Put the the same springs on a 300ZXTT and the ride was brutal, plus the damper switch was useless. Sounds like the unrevised and coupe combo will be right for my G -- and for my beloved but non-enthusiast spouse. I know the 3 teenage boys will love the drop.

When you lower your car you will get some additional negative camber which will wear out the inside of your tires faster. You can swap them from side to side every 3-5k to help this.

I have the 350Z H-techs and the drop is moderate but the ride quality is AWESOME. I'm really glad I went with this choice of spring.

With the sport shocks or non-sport shocks? Or did you change the shocks as well?

I have the revised G35 Coupe H Techs with the OEM g35 Sports Shocks. I'm trying to decide how the ride quality and drop is before I install it. I can't seem to find anybody with that combo on a sedan. What is the difference between the coupe and Z springs?

the coupe springs provide a slight drop over the 350z springs but they both have the same spring rates for each respective model year.
