Re: You have me scared...

Yup. Loved the Cobra and still have my 86 4 banger (getting my butt to/from work since Oct) with 176k..... But, looking at the '03 Cobra and it's $34k sticker made me start looking somewhere else.... I got the Gsedan, 6MT, Nav, Prem. for less than the Cobra sticker and it has all the performance of my 97 Cobra with a usable back seat and all the toys.

I'm not sold on the '05 Mustang either. Don't like the dash and the rally foglights. And I still winder if Ford is going to price them in the sky too. Motor Trend reports an estmated cost for the GT of $26-29k in this month's issue. Ouch!

An 86 Mustang 4-banger? Damn, I had an '81, started giving me grief around 60k, but started using oil around 45k, that's the only car I ever had that used oil like that! I agree, the sticker on the GT's and Cobras, is a shock, and the G is a much nicer car, I don't miss my GT at all, this car is great! What was the HP on the 97 Cobra?

Re: You have me scared...

I took (on purpose) a detour on the way in to work this morning. Although it was dry near my house, nearer my workplace it was quite a bit colder and a bit foggy. It's near a very underpopulated but well developed business park, so the roads are new, nice, and empty. I took a corner normally, but hit a wet spot under a tree overhang and the VDC popped in. Although I thought I was in complete control going in, right after the heel-toe d/s, the VDC popped in. I would have clearly understeered without it and probably would have had to either spin or drift wide. The car restuck under reduced (VDC) throttle, and I exited safely.

VDC is good, and it almost never hampers my fun.

Yup. The 2.3L 4 banger. 88 wonderhul HP, but like 130-140 lb-ft of torque mated to a 4 speed stick. It's actually a great little car - starts right away first thing in the morning, and the only problem spot is the carburator - the Carter carb used on it (and Jeeps and a lot of other cars from that vintage) is a POS. But, the engine has held up to my abuse fine. She burns oil at the rate of 1qt every 3-400 miles (no smoke except on cold startup) and just won't die.

I keep it around for sentimental value - it was/is my first car, which I had since '92 and bought it with 58k. Now it has 176k. I hear the rings like to go @ around 190-200k and I'm not sure if I'll do it or just say good-bye...

The '97 Cobra was 305hp and 300 lb-ft. From a 4.6L DOHC N/A engine. It was a blast to drive.
