I'm sorry, I am 33 and this question seems very childish but seriously, with my auto 04 sedan and an open diff, in the dry when I nail the throttle from a dead stop, I would expect the rear tires to at least give a nice squeal, with or without the tracton on.

 

squealing means you are losing traction and forward momentum. you want a car that hooks up well. losing traction is the nemesis of any drag racer. ferraris and beemers have fancy tranny programs to minimize wheelspin on hard launches. my buddy's porsche with tons of power will not break loose from a stop because it squats down and grabs the road, similar to our cars.

i realize you're no dragster, but you should be glad that you can rip off consistent acceleration instead of boiling your tires.

Yeah, I know that a loss of traction means a loss of grip and thus a loss of forward progress. Maybe this comes from my muscle car days. Sometimes it was just fun to do once in a while.

 

Try mashing the gas and the brake at the same time for about 1 second and release the brake. They should spin a bit. In cooler weather, you should be able to light them up quite a bit. The reason the G won't light up it's tires very well from a dead stop is because Infiniti went to great lengths to get the rear suspension geometry to plant the rear tires. The Z's can light up their tires quite a bit better mostly because of their 8" shorter wheelbase.

 

its an auto.. even with the traction off, the car will not break loose.
its sluggish till 3ooo rpm.

 

The timing of this is too weird; I just decided to try it yesterday. Switched the VDC off, gave her a quick half-throttle and she let out a good squeal.

 

Ditto. I can smoke the rears from a standing start. 17" wheels on an 05.

#1, it's an auto..
#2, open diff isn't gonna get you anything but one leggers all day long,
with the manual you can just dump the clutch from 35k and it'll light em up like the 4th.
if you're really looking to slide you can always weld the diff. of course you'd just about slide at any blip of the throttle going around corners

 

Might be a silly question, but did you at least turn off your VDC?

Haha, you're funny and also very wrong. Just because it has an open diff doesn't mean it's going to peg leg. My G can EASILY lay two patches of even rubber in 1st. Only when I gun it on a slippery surface or off camber turn will it peg leg a bit. The car is just as tail happy as my old Z28 with a torsen LSD.
