i gave in and finally got. . .

a 2000 Honda Civic Coupe EX 5 speed manual. . .gonna get me 30-40 MPG. . .so i officially got a "beater" car one could say, save money on gas, maintenance on the G, keeping those miles low, so my G can live a long and pleasant life in the many years to come.

Just curious, how many of you guys out there have a "beater" car and treat your G as a weekend ride?

i have a beater......my first car actually, a 99' saturn(sedan) lol. Great on gas mileage, i've put that thing through a beating and it keeps coming back for more. I always run it with no oil and still it runs pretty good. i use it to go to work, drive-thru(food), Gym and so forth. i really only use my g on the weekends.

Had an 89 Sentra as my beater car for the longest time. I had purchased it brand new back in college and couldn't make myself let go off it. No beater car now though.

I would love to get a decent beater like something 00 and up like a civic or an accord. It sucks getting 17.48 mph every tank even when I drive with a light foot

That's something I think everyone is still baffled about with the G. Horrendous gas mileage for a relatively small displacement motor. I got 16 mpg with my X. Crazy.

Funny thing is, other variations of the VQ motor didn't do nearly as bad. I've had 5 VQ cars and the G was by far the worst mileage I've had on any car I've ever owned, including a current 6.1 liter Charger SRT8.

Although not necessarily a beater, I have a 1998 Corolla CE for my 2nd car. It gets excellent gas mileage as expected, 28/33 mpg city and highway. It's currently sitting at 98K miles while the G has only 49K. I like to use the Corolla for inner city drives, but for long distance driving I bust out the G.

man, i drove already 60 miles in this car, and the fuel level is nearly full still!! i'm addicted to saving gas now! this "beater" idea is already paying off after a few days.

i got it for $6900 from a dealer. private sellers are almost always cheaper. one thing the dealer told me (private dealer, not honda dealership), they get all their cars from vegas in cali, from auctions at car dealerships. its just alot cheaper that way they say. but anyways, it had 104,000 miles, great condition, everythign working, so i'm happy. craigslist always has something. one thing i made sure of is mileage, i wasn't trying to buy a used civic that averaged more than 20,000 miles a year. anything below that to me is acceptable.

my G is my only car and i beat the **** out of it =P

i get about 11 mpg average. maybe 12-13 on a good week. I've gone as low as 9 mpg.

i dont have a lead foot. its undescriblable. its like some sort of metal from krypton or something.

For a while after I first got the G I kept my old 94 Grand Cherokee thinking I would use it as a beater. But I never used it because the G is just too fun to drive!

95' Jeep Wrangler YJ is my beater... Not great on gas mileage but functional for when I need to haul something, pull a trailer, or go off-road. :-)

1991 Ford Ranger, she is a beauty. I have always owned fullsize trucks so when I traded in my F-150 for the G I wanted a beater to haul around crap, take the dog to the lake, etc.
