Opinions on future modifications

Hey guys I have approximately $1000 to spend on my car and i have pretty much narrowed it down to these items and i would like some feedback.

1. stillen dual exhaust
2. Crawford Plenum + springs
3. Borla dual exhaust + springs

I’m deciding between option 1 and 2 mostly.
My current mods include the 350Z tube and stillen air box, 22"magnaflow resonator.

my finished engine performance parts will include the plenum,TS ECU, and the dual exhaust(and what i already have). I know I’m saving the ecu for last but not sure what I should do now with my 1k. btw my car is 5at.

Your advice is appreciated.

Thanks.

Too Bad you can't do 2 and 3. Crawford and Borla that is w/o the springs.

The reason for my comment was the performance gains. Plus our stock springs do a decent job unless you plan to do a road course. Just too much traffic down here to otherwise make the springs necessary right away. But then that is my opinion and you know what they say. Re: Opinions on future modifications

Merlin do you know about how much it would cost for me to get the springs installed? My main reason for the springs would be for the looks, I feel it gives the sedan a much more aggressive stance with the lack of the big front wheel gap. A secondary reason would be if there are performance benefits. The Crawford I can install my self with a friend so no problem there.

It’s a tuff decision, I have had my eye on the stillen exhaust for a while but I might take a different approach. Also with the springs what else do I need to get done for ex. alignment? I figure Crawford would cost me $450 springs $225 install around $275 which is in my budget, any other expenses?

Since you mention both brands, I think it's important to study both designs, look at pics of each system from end to end.

I have the Crawford pleneum, highly recommended here. The only springs I'd run on the sedan myself, unfortunately would lower the car more than I can do, RSR springs (about 1.6" drop on a sedan).

Re: Opinions on future modifications

Stillen DE will eat up the whole $1K, but well worth it. Best mod so far for me.

I took my Crawford off.
I took my CAI off.
Intake mods lost me 7 HP on the dyno. Nothing but a K/N panel filter in the stock box now. Works great. The stock cold air intake box is excellent and the intake is tuned very well from the factory. I wasted a lot of money.

UR pulley set helps from idle to redline. Quick revs and no ill effects.

Im done with engine mods. Unless you're going FI and have to tune or piggyback the ECU, resist trying to outsmart the Nissan engineering group with bolt-on power promises.

You took you crawford pleneum off because you couldn't didn't like the sound it made if I recall. A few people have felt the same way, it doesn't effect me, it has become a normal sound. The vast majority of owner comments on the pleneum are extreamly positive. Common comments from owners are that it makes the power it promise's and makes it the way it promise's.

On a side note, I don't recall seeing a dyno post about your 7hp CAI loss, where can I find it. (looking for fact's for research, not debate).

BlackonBlack, I don't know what a spring replacement job would cost, since I have never had it done. Plus I like to do most work myself.

Alignment is all I can think of right now.

Anything else guys? My brain is somewhere else right now.;(

Re: Opinions on future modifications

They burned the runs on a CD, but after I tried to open them at home, the viewer said the files are corrupt. I think I got a bad disk and havent gone back to get a new one burned. Talked to Doug about the power loss and he said it has happened to other guys too. Has something to do with the CAI not working well with the plenum. He said the plenum was designed to work with the stock intake setup. Who knows? Combined with the power loss and the clatter, none of it was any good for me. Amazing how smooth everything sounds now with the Stillen purring along. I'm waiting for a better solution to come along that doesn't require all the loose parts (bolt replacements, washers, spacers, etc). Non-metallic for heat rejection or soak will be nice too.

Re: Opinions on future modifications

Is there a sedan on site with RSR down springs and stock struts? I've been mulling over putting the RSR springs on my sport sedan for a while now and comments or pics would be great.

I've held off using the 350z/G35c RSR springs because the drop seems like alot to me. Is this math correct?...Front: 7/8"+.60"=1.475", Rear: 1-1/8"+.60"=1.725"...I doubt that a .60" drop on a coupe would cause any rear camber problems, but 1.725" on a sedan? Isn't this asking for trouble?

I read somewhere RSR is bringing a longer SUS spring specifically for the G35 sedan with the same rates as their current PN #30-N200 spring for 350z/G35c (i.e., almost identical to stock sedan w/sport suspension) which would result in only a .60" drop front and rear on a sedan? That would be perfect, too much snow to do anything radical. Anybody hear?

If that isn't going to happen, and assuming one doesn't like the idea of a "squatty" *** end, is there an alternative linear rear spring to pair with RSR's in front that might flatten things out and help reduce any potential camber problems? I can't find a good match height/rate wise. Ideas appreciated.
